There are a lot of Civ games out there, so I thought Id pitch an idea I have for one. And yes, I know there have been other mods and attempts to make Atlantis a playable Civilization, but CIV Altantis would actually take place in the distant past, in a world where the sunken continents of Lemuria in the Pacific, Atlantis, and the Hindu Tamil Civilization still existed. It is based on the notion that the Ancient world was more advanced then we are today, hence why all these sacred sites are build on precise Leylines that are perfectly connected across the globe. It would start somewhere in the distant past and end at 10,000 BC, and the main way to win would be preparing your people to survive the catastrophe. The game would explore a number of myths such as the Hollow Earth theory, Giants, Ancient Aliens, etc.

"Amongst the various dates for a major – global – catastrophe, none has been as popular as “ca. 10,000 BC”, which fortuitously coincides with Plato's story of Atlantis."

The construction of many of the worlds wonders, such as the great pyramid, was done with tools capable of greater precision then we have today, they have even found evidence of nuclear warfare in Ancient India. This is described somewhere in the Hindu Vedas as a strong devouring fire from heaven. Just how advanced were humans in the past, and why did we lose our technology and start over again from scratch?

If anyone is interested, here is Sacred Symbols of MU, the Lifetime work of Author and Archeologist James Churchward, who spent some 24 years finding evidence of Lemuria, decoding Mexican tablets, and talking to Rishi's about the Ancient Naga / Naacal civilization that was called the Motherland of Man.

Playable Civs (Mainly Atlantis, Lemuria, Hyperborea, and Tamil, but others I would probably include)
-------------------------------
Lemuria
Atlantis (Said to be ancestors of the Egyptians)
Hyperborea (Greek Mythos, ancient white nordic north polar race)
Tamil (India / Rama)
Dogon
Sumeria
Uighur
Moors (Was there a time when the whole world was much like Ireland?)
Aboriginees (Ancient Australia)
Asgard (Ancient Norse) and other cities / places from Norse Mythology
Zapotec / Mound Builders (Ancient America)
Olmec / Mound Builders (Ancient America)
Phoenicia (The Phoenicians claim to have been civilized since about 30,000 BC)
Osirian (200+ cities are submerged in Mediterrean. Egyptians Minoans Myceneans are left from this Civ)

Pantheons / ET Factions (* and non listed Civs may choose their own)
---------------
Hyperborea - The Titans (Giants from Hollow Earth, least advanced, but strong)
Tamil (India / Rama) - The Hindu Vedas (Brahma, Shiva, Krishna, Indra, etc. advanced)
Osirian - The Egyptian Gods from Orion
Dogon - Egyptian Gods from Orion, and Reptillains (Nommo, the Serpent.)
*Phoenicia - Canaanite Gods, in addition to whatever ET faction they choose.
Asgard - Norse Gods, choice between Aesir and Venir (somewhat advanced)
Sumeria - Annunaki, choice between Enki or Enlil (two opposing factions, just like the norse)
*Lemuria - Retillians, 7 headed serpent (but you may choose a different faction)
*Aboriginees - Reptillians, the Rainbow Serpent. (but you may choose a different faction)
Pleadians - Religion focused on Pleadians does not worship them, but is a form of humanism.
Arcturians - Likewise not worshipped, but considered the most scientifically advanced.

*If you play a Civ that chooses it's faction, Lemuria, Atlantis, moors, mound builders, Phoenicia, or Uighur, the ET faction you pick will come into the game. If you pick Annunaki or Norse Gods, you can pick the Aesir, Venir, Enki, or Enlil, the other will exist and play a role as enemy of the faction, but you can't have two Civs choose the Norse or Annunaki, one Civ gets both factions. Annunaki and Norse are thus hindered, and more difficult to work with then the other factions.

**Titans are giants from inside the Earth. These work differently. They don't contact you from space, They actually appear on the map. They can't annihilate cities, but they can attack them, and are very strong.

Reptillians are sinister. Their quests will often involve conquest and cruelty. They the only faction who will ask for human sacrifices to feast on. You may abandon them for another faction at any time, but you will then have zero quest progress, and need to start over with the new faction of that you pick. If you betray them, you Civ will prove the other factions with any strategic info about the Reptillians, and gain a quest bonus. Any civilization that honors "The Serpent" in any way is subject to visitation by Reptillians, who make demands, and punish you if you reject them. Choosing a faction that is against Reptillians will enlist their protection.

Pleadians are cunning and civilized. Their quests are peaceful, or espionage related. They will not ask for direct warfare. Arcturians are the most advanced, and mysterious. Their quests will often be science related, or strange. Norse and Annunaki mostly have quests that deal with their inner rivals. Titans are mostly concerned with the Earth, gathering resources, where cities are settled, and building wonders. They will also ask you to fight their enemies or capture and disband enemy cities built in areas they consider their land. All other factions are balanced, and have a large random variety of quests.

Gameplay Notes
------------------------------
* Construction of flying machines known as Vimana's, and later on UFOs (often appear in Religious Art)
* Giants may be found in mystery huts, (can't be produced) and these are excellent military units. Can also
be given to any player who is on friendly with the Titans, or has chosen them as Allied Faction.

* Instead of All Civs learning the same technologies, there are also special technologies, which can only be researched and developed by certain Civs, unless of course, they are stolen by spies. (A difficult task)

+ Age of the Gods: There are different factions of advanced Aliens that visit Earth during this time, and express their favor or displeasure at the things that are going on. The player will choose which faction to ally with. The Aesir and the Venir for instance, the two types of Norse Gods that were at war with each other. Also the Annunaki (Sumerian mythos) the war between the followers of Enlil and Enki. Shiva and the Hindu Gods from the Vedas and the Ramayana. There are many different ways they can interact with civilizations.

-Religion in Civ Atlantis is partly concerned with choosing a pantheon of ET gods such as the Aesir, the Venir, the Annunaki, the Osirians, etc. Instead of mere belief, we explore the notion such gods were real advanced beings, from other stars. All sorts of quests can be given to civilizations by their pantheon of gods, who will randomly play an active role in affairs, and may at times go to war with other factions of gods. Shrines and Temples increase popularity of gods, their influence may decide whose intergalactic territory is the Earth.

** Special Wonders, such as the Great Pyramid, must ALL be built in precise leyline locations on the same horozontal line across the map. In order to build them, one must make a city near these locations. Im sorry to inform you, but CIV has NOT done their research with regard to the the Great Pyramid. It was NOT a burial chamber for the Pharaohs. In fact, no tombs or heiroglyphs are found anywhere inside. There is evidence of electricity, heiroglyphs depicting helicopters, submarines, and giant lightbulbs. There were no torches inside, and a lot of these ancient wonders were constructed in ways so precise, they had to used technology beyond what we have today. For gameplay, Such wonders need to be built with assistance from the Aliens / Gods.

Ways to Win:
-----------------
1) World Domination: Complete all quests, defeat the enemies of your pantheon, and build all of the required wonders. Your pantheon becomes the dominant pantheon, and your Civ becomes the dominant civilization. Depending on how the game goes, World Domination may become impossible, because the "Gods" are competing with each other, as well as the Civs. If someone beats you to building the wonders they ask for, or you don't have a high rate of completing their quests, or if you lose the cities they ask you to capture.

The more progress you make at fulfilling the agenda of your pantheon the more other Civs and pantheons will begin to make war with you. Military tensions escalate and "World War" is declared. You will need a lot of cities, and a strong military. Atlantis has a strong military and technology advantage, but they cannot make more then 10 cities, and these must be constructed on Atlantis. All other Civs competing for world domination, once world war is declared, will have some of their cities annihilated by Aliens. Your Pantheon will require you to capture all city capitals as well as cities they choose. There are significant consequences if you simply go to war with everyone and capture cities, esp if you do so before "World War" is declared.

2) World Leader: You need to be an honorable player and gain the favor of other Civs to where you become the world leader, and your Pantheon must become the world religion. You need to build many shrines and temples and do missionary work which will increase the popularity and influence of your pantheon. The "gods" are competing with each other for Plan-ET Earth. When a Pantheon of Gods becomes the clear winner and gains the most influence over the people of Earth, by Intergalactic Law, Plan-ET becomes part of their Sovereign Territory, and the other ET Pantheons are forced to leave.

You also need to build things and do things that make you culture more popular and favored by the people of other civilizations. This will force their leaders to favor you, else they will lose the respect of the people. Civs on this path are trying to be kind and helpful to other Civs. It is mostly peaceful, but at times, weaker Civs will ask you to fight wars to protect them from Strong Civs, and by doing so you will their gain. The strong Civs will eventually forgive you because your purpose in going to war was honorable.

3) World Survival: The game continues until 10,000 BC at which time, Lemuria, Atlantis, and Tamil completely sink, and all of their cities are destroyed. Other Civs also lose most of their population to diasters. There is an Asteroid, Super Volcanos, Pole Shift event, and the great flood. Many areas of the world are devastated. Cities built in "Safe Zones" will survive intact. To win at Survival, you must have a high science rate. You need to research the advancement that makes "Safe Zones" appear on the map and then build or capture cities there. Another Science will prove there is a massive global cataclysm on the way. Civs behind in Science will simply scoff at these "Doomsday Prophecies" and will not be allowed to make any preparations at all.

Preparations include buildings that help you survive, such as bomb shelters, massive storehouses of food and water, and the Glass Dome to protect one of your cities from Tsunami Tidal Waves, which is especially expensive. You can also build the "Noahs Ark" wonder, allowing some of your population to survive despite your cities being destroyed. "Underworld" Technology allows you build "caves" and turn your population into settlers and move them underground. It will take time and money to make all these settlers and move them to the places where "Caves" may be constructed.

What we know (and/or Myths)
---------------------------------------
Lemurians: They were said to be very spiritual, peaceful, loving, and organic. In some stories Lemuria is destroyed because of the chaotic intermingling of fire and water, which excited Super Volcanos and other natural disasters, this "chaotic intermingling" was supposedly due to the Lemurians all having sex with each other and practicing free and open love. They were basically one big family. The continent of Lemuria would explain how Hawaii, Easter Island, and other islands, all have similar Animal and plant life, despite thousands of miles of ocean between them, and things like the giant stoneheads.

* Lemuria would thus be highly spiritual, and very happy, but not very advanced. Their land is large, full of lush resources, riches, and they were probably quite decadent. The strategy for Lemuria is to make a lot of cities, and later in the game, it is good idea to steal science from Atlantis, though difficult and risky, as Lemuria and Atlantis will always eventually be at war with each other.

Atlantis: is of course the most well known. Im not sure if there actually was an ancient Atlantis, or if Plato's story was about about the island of Santorini, which was wiped out by the Thera Eruption. The pillar of fire and smoke that appears in the biblical Exodus story. Some argue Ancient Atlantis was actually Lemuria while others insist that Lemuria and Atlantis were bitter enemies, at war with each other. For the purposes of Civ Atlantis, I recommend going with the latter.

* Atlantis would start with a smaller continent then Lemuria, either located in the Atlantic, or Antarctica before it drifted south to where it is today and froze over. It can have different locations depending on map. Atlantis would of course, be advanced, with science having do with crystals and laser technology.

* I've heard that the Capital of Atlantis (or was it Lemuria) was called Poseidon. Atlantis consists of 10 Cities, in the pattern of the Tree of Life. Atlantis gets access to powerful technology, and units, but are limited to making 10 cities, and can't build any more until near the end when they reach the science advancements that warn of the coming disaster and lets safe zones appear on the map, where new cities can be constructed.

Tamil: The land that used to connect India and China with Australia, the Tamil lands in the Indian Ocean.

Civilization Traits
--------------------------------
Phonecians: (+1 movement for all ships, increased rate of building settlers) Phoenicians are better at making a large widespread empire full of cities then anyone else, but the Canaanite gods, El, Astarte, Baal, etc are not ET factions, so they choose another pantheon faction. Therefore shrines, temples, etc, are less effective, due to divided pantheon, but they make up for it by having more cities. Unique Naval and merchant related technologies. Bonus to producing writers, begins with well defined language / alphabet advancements.

Lemurians: Happiness increased, and Religious buildings are more effective. Unique technologies relating to animals, such as the ability to ride Elephants, and nature, such as alchemy, and the use of medicine. Unique advancements that unlock special resources. Bonus for trade, and trade routes increased, trade range is maximized, can send caravans and trade ships anywhere in the world. Must settle cities on their home continent of Lemuria, until researching "plate tectonics" and then can build cities in safe zones.

Atlantis: Crystals, Lasers, and other unique advanced technologies, advanced and powerful military units, but limited to 10 cities on Atlantis, until researching "Plate Tectonics" Then they can build cities in safe zones away from fault lines, Tsunamis, and Volcanos. Number of Units limited due to limited number of cities. Captured Cities cannot produce advanced Atlantian units, buildings, or wonders. To do so would bring Atlantean technology into public view. Reclusive. Atlantean cities are the hardest to conquer.

Dogon: Unique architecture, military, religious, and espionage units. Bonus to shrines, temples, and religious festivals. Culture bonus and bonus for producing artists, many Dogon are sculptors, but their art tends to be private. Works with Orions and sometimes Reptillians. Tribal. Does not learn industrialization or build factories. Rejects Androgynous modern society, maintains unique male/female roles. excellent spies, and use of masks. Ancestor Worship - great accomplishments or victories (such as capturing a city) in early parts of the game creates holidays, festivities, and other bonuses later on. Great victories increase the skill of mid-late game military units, developing a lot of trade routes early on gives all units a +1 movement bonus, and other types of bonuses for other types of early game accomplishments to be considered.
