Was it only in Civ2 or maybe SMAC, that player recieces no notification of the use of nuclear weapons by AI civs?

Just had one of those turns where I noted that everyone's stockpiles were gone and had to track down the damage. I have no idea who started it. Seems odd to me.

You would only see nukes, if they were launched at you. Well, if they landed near, you could tell. Not sure, if an embassy would let you know, but probably not.

Happens a lot to me when I'm getting started on a war to eliminate a civ and the other civs decide to gang up on it with nukes. I'd just as soon do without it, sure makes for a mess to clean up and transport difficult with all the roads/rail gone.

Many turns later and many nukes have flown and no notice has been given. Since I have embassies with all and spys in most its pretty clear that there is no notice mechanism in CivCon unless its piggybacked to mutual defense treaties which I do not have. I can see launches whenever they are in revealed terrain.

You'd think we'd have some version of a CNN, civilization news network, as that was in more primitive games.

Think about it this way, if you started turning your hated enemy's empire into a parking lot you would not want to advertise who was doing it. Of course other civs will use their intelligence asset to find out who did it and declare them an outlaw, but the launching civ can at least publicly deny any such thing and maybe force public opinion in other countries on their side (maybe).

It should at least be possible at least to know that someone got nuked.

Civ 2 notified it.
Could you nuke a country and the rest of the world wouldn't know? I don't know. How many of you knew the Dutch nuked the Belgians?
It'd be hard to keep a secret after the invention of radio.

How many of you knew the Dutch nuked the Belgians?
The devestation extended for kilometers in all directions. Entire Belgians cities were simply flattened into the ground. Total damage was estimated at €50 ($71.79). :D

The Dutch estimated the damage to be about 2 million euros, one million per bomb.
