Civ hangs upon loading larger save games

I've been having trouble since reinstalling and upgrading to 1.61. I can play many games fine, but once the game gets complex enough, I can't load the game! This only seems to apply to loading games, and the symptom is that the program hangs after the progress bar has filled all the way and the title music fades out. For instance, I can't load this autosave, which others say is fine: http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=96521

Any idea what might be causing this? I searched and didn't see anyone with the same issue. My system's a Sempron 2800 with a Radeon 9600XT and 512MB RAM.

There have been reports of problems with loading saves larger than 200KB. I don't remember the solution, try to search this forum. But it is also possible that there was no known solution... Good luck.

Brilliant, it was me who posted the same problem some days ago, but no one ever had any idea how to solve it.
I know that I'm not alone, a while ago in January there were some other people having the same problem, but no idea from all the brilliant people, who are solving problems with odd graphic cards and memory leaks and stuff like that, but can't take care of this kind of problem.
Come on you eggheads, this can be your finest hour if you solve this problem!

Yep, I saw some similar problems in searching. One common error message was a problem with parsing the XML in savegames, but that was supposedly fixed in 1.52...

Clearing the cache seems to have fixed it. Yay!
