Civ Ideas & Suggestions Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread

Maybe it's already been suggested but...

Can we please have an in-game option to turn combat animations off? I can take a nap for all the time air strikes take to happen.

And... make air strike animations shorter. Don't show the whole flight path from takeoff to landing. Just have the one flyover animation like was done in Civ4 and Civ III.

Thanks!

Combat animations can be turned off in options menu.

Anyway, I really hope there will be a patch to improve the AI.
Why?
Once I was playing a team game. USA (me), England and Russia on one team, Germany, Japan and Rome on another. Lizzie and Cat were like :c5angry: :c5angry: ! Yes they were ANGRY towards me even though we were on the SAME team. Otto, Oda and Augustus welcomed me warmly...

I think you may have misunderstood me. Combat animations can be turned off through advanced setup *before* you start the game. Once the game has started, there is no option to turn off combat animations in the option menu. Unless, of course, this was added in a patch that I don't have which doesn't seem likely since Steam auto-updates Civ5 for me. If you can show me a screenshot of this option during the middle of a game, I would be very happy (maybe it's one of those easter eggs).

Realism FTW.
Beats sitting there, doing nothing and then OMFG your enemies suddenly disappear.

I am a bit disappointed by the current Civ, the game is really annoying in some ways. Here my suggestions:

- Special upgrades for certain actions: Units get new upgrades when they do special things like kill an enemy great general ("Beheader or something") effect: Fighting against this unit, the enemy will no longer receive a bonus if a great general is near.
other examples: Surviving 3 or 4 attacks in a single turn gives a "Die Hard" promotion, giving a defensive bonus. This would make unit promotions more desirable, units more unique and give a greater incentive to upgrade old units!

- Bring back "Auto-connect resources" speaks for itself

- Diplo Overview: I wanna see how Civs and CSs stand towards each other in one window/graphic and not the current, stupid overview. I wanna see relations, disputes, trades, pacts! The old way was kinda ugly, but much much better than the current version! It would be really important with the city states. If you have larger maps with many opponents, diplo is completely confusing, you hardly know who you are going to war with!

- Alliance overviews!: I wanna see the entire alliances together (civs and CSs) and get only one message when they go to war, make peace or have a bowel movement, not get swamped by 50 messages all the time! I want don't want them to change alliances so fast either! Some CSs jump alliances all the time, in the middle of war!

- Mentally stable CS: I know they are corrupt, but what happens in larger wars is just ridiculous! If you are at war with a CS because of an alliance, costs for "bribing" the CS should become astronomically high, so alliances are more stable during a war! Plus, CS influence should not decay as rapidly during wartime.

- Allow mercs, expeditionary forces: You should be able to buy/sell units from other civs and CSeither permanently, or for some turns, that would allow more flexibility in warfare and be realistic, has been a good tradition in Europe for centuries! If loaned unit gets destroyed, the original owners gets angry or wants compensation.

- Make the Panzer better! +1 movement is crap, and the Furor Teutonicus makes Germany not a good civ to play anymore. It is nice very early on, after that, it is useless!

EDIT:

- Bring back the useless palace! Or even better: SMAC's monument of accomplishments (you know: first victory, first mounted unit, first tank, first plane, stuff like that) I know it is useless and childish, but nice to see stuff like that!

- And yes, the victory movies and the little window with the world view and line graphs were nice!

Ok, now I am out of complaints...

Have no "objection!" to your ideas but autoconnect and palaces...... Why?

Palaces: stupid but you have something to show (especially since you could now see them in the world view and make your city even fanzier)

Autoconnect: Just makes it easier when a new resource comes along or you expand a large empire fast. I had the problem several times that I conquered new luxury resources but didn't see that their improvements had beend destroyed in the war (I assume when outside the borders for a short time or I captured workers while they were building them). Not a big one, would be nice, though.

I see. :yup:

Another thing I wish to see is the return of th option to build the Palace (therefore reestablishing the Capital at a newer city) when we built enough cities.
Say I play Japan. I want to make Tokyo the capital (without renaming Kyoto), so I build X (X being a number) cities in order to build the Palace at Tokyo.
But since there's no such option, :c5angry:!

i hate that when u find a settler in a ruin that just settles instanly in one of your cities, never tells u which one. i would like the option to have a settler or to tell them what city i want them to settle in.

I'd really like for advanced set up to save my gameplay preferences, so I don't have to re-enter them every time from scratch. I'm pretty sure previous versions of Civ did this!

I would like a way to access resources outside my borders. What about bringing back colonies.

I would also like to see an airbase/seabase where planes could be stationed or ships healed outside of my borders.

My suggestion:
The helicopter unit should be able to traverse not only mountain tiles but also water and ice tiles. As for water tiles, embarkation schould only happen if the move would end on a water tile. Thus, if the helicopter can traverse the tiles in one move, it schould not embark.

Or, the chopper just fly over seas and ice instead of packing up into a ship.

Choppers can't fly over water? NONSENSE.

I just purchased Civ 5 last week and played a few stock maps and i like some stuff and dislike some other stuff. The biggest complaint i have is map editing and usage is too complicated.

Let me explain what kind of player i am and this should make it apparent what i want. I have been playing Civ since Civ 2 and to date even with all the stuff possible with the tools given i still liked the Civ 3 map edotor the best of all. It was a nice mix of control and detail but it was still simple to use. This Civ5 set up might be a modders dream but it kind of leaves folks like me out in the cold. I am the type of player who likes to paint some dirt, plop some start spots down, scatter some resources around and play the map. I do not make new units, i do not make mods or change the rules on how the game works i just want to paint some dirt, plop some start spots down, and scatter some resources that is pretty much the extent of what i do. This new editor is a pain in the ass to use even to the point that if i want to add just one fricken oil to the map i have to create a whole NEW MOD and that is just annoying.

So what i want is the best editor EVER and that is the map editor from CIV 3 to be avaliable for civ 5. For me, and i am probably a minority here but anyway, 90% of the entertainment value i found in the CIv games is the map editor. Sitting down with the map editor and allowing my insanity to pour forth and then playing what i just made is/was the main reason i have followed the Civ series for as long as i have. This map editor for civ 5 adds steps that are completely unneccessary IMHO for what i want to do, and i feel as if the game no longer is interested in supporting people like me because the new editor is way to complecated. Yea i have figured out how to use it now but even still it is a pain in the balls to use and i do not like it.

So in closing how about a bone here and give me back my editor, even in Civ 4 i still could do the simple maps i wanted to make and play but this new map editor even with all the stuff you supposedly could do with it i still preffered the map editor from Civ 3 the best of all. Why a map is considered a mod even though i change no rules as to how the game works even though all i want to do is paint some dirt is beyond me. I would yell fix it but it is not broken it just seems the game has passed me by and it is a bit disappointing.

interest when money is positive...perhaps you could add a building that makes it possible...or a wonder to make it exclusive...

This thread is about good ideas how to improve CiV. If you think you have good ideas, share them here.

CiV took a step towards tactical combat. Since so many likes it why not take it even further?

Some good ideas:
  • Add action points to unit (like in Laser Squad). This makes tactical combat so much more tactical.
  • Add inventory to units, so you can buy better weapons and armor for them.
  • Add rogue units that can backstab other units or pickpocket items. Stealth your way to victory!
  • Improved unit development. Create your own units by assigning stat points.
  • Quick combat: no more trouble of building cities etc just to have some fun.
  • Campaigns: Epic battles. Experience and equipment carries over from epic battle to another.

..or take it even further in mmorpg version of CiV, where each player controls one unit.
  • New player starts as a newly trained unit.
  • New achievements: defeat modern armor as playing a spearman five times in same battleground etc etc.
  • Realtime combat: turn based is so yesterday and promotes thinking too much.
  • Arena mode: show who is the most badass player on the playground.
  • Raids: defeat boss monsters like Giant Death Robots with your friends.
  • Battlegrounds: (capture the flag mode, control points etc)
  • Professions: craft weapons and armor as blacksmith, sell jewelry for high prices, mine all the good stuff and much more!
  • Auction houses: sell your hard earned loot for maximum profits

Feel free to add your own good ideas :)

Take some of the things that were lost in Civ 4 and put them back. For examples: wonder movies and end game recap. And how about making it so that the game remembers the settings I used last time so I don't have to remember for the 50th time to set my speed on quick?

But do keep the hex grid. This I like. And I'm also fine with the 1 unit per tile thing too.
