I have a pre-release copy of Windows XP, but I am afraid to install it because of possible incompbatibility issues. I read somewhere that about 70% of win 98 software is expected to be compatible with win XP. My fear is that CivII is one of the thirty percent that is incompatible.

I also know that XP is based on the Win2k OS with enhanced multimedia tools. So if I could get any input on how win 2k works with civII it would be of great help.

Here is an old news post I posted in June:
---------------------
Total Windows 2000 Civ2 Solutions

Many players have problems getting Civ2 to work on Windows 2000. There are two ways to do it:

Method 1(discovered by David Pritchard):

[*]Installed WinG from CivII setup
[*]Do *not* install Video for Windows during CivII setup. If you did this already, delete Ir41.dll from Winnt\system
[*]Installed the LATEST Indeo drivers (v5.11) from Ligos. This last step is what got the videos working.
[/list=a]
Method 2: Just install the Windows 2000 Compatibility Patch (354 KB). I found method 2 in the strategic games newsgroup (posted by Hank). You should try method 2 first since it's alot simpler.
