Civ IV: Beyond the Sword Info Center

So, does this mean I have to finally upgrade to XP? And as far as requirements go, has anybody seen any other system requirements posted anywhere? You know, the minimum/recommended thing?

If I have to upgrade to XP, what's the best edition for single person home gaming use?
If Civ4 works for you on Win 2K, then the expansion should work too.

If that's all you want to do, then Windows XP Home would serve your purpose. I personally wouldn't get anything less than Windows XP Professional since I like having the additional networking and language features. My favorite is Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 so that is what I have installed.

Multiplayer Features

On the multiplayer front, it's now possible to select any leader-civilization combination. This new option likely will give Civs and leaders that were previously unpopular in multiplayer new attention. The traditional sequential turn play mode has been improved so all players on the same team take their turns simultaneously.

I for my side would like to have this option available for the single player mode as well. Sometimes you like to try out some settings bound to an unfamiliar leader, but then you will have to rename every city and unit (think of the Malinese and Zulu).

Offering this option for SP-mode as well should not be that much additional work for the developers, no?

It's probably gonna be available in custom game. If not, some mod will probably make it possible (hopefully).

Any word yet on lethal bombardment? A late addition to CivIII, dropped again (!) in civ IV... to me the air-sea thing is skewed without it.

I rather hope this isn't in BtS. I never played Civ III Conquests, but from what I heard (Sullla's article on where Conquests went wrong) lethal bombardment broke Civ III by making bombers über-powerful.

I agree with your statement about Little Boy and Fat Man. It'd be great to have a nuclear bomber unit, essentially a B-29 armed with atomic bombs, like in the WWII Pacific scenario in C3C. I hope they do that one day, if not in BtS.

Well Ideally the Nuclear weapons would be reworked to

upgrade path:
Nuclear Bomb (land unit moves 1..only attacks 1 tile, only requires Fission)
Nuclear Bomber (Air unit...only hits 1 tile, also needs Radio+Flight)
ICBM (Requires Satelites+Computers, but as is otherwise)

Tactical (Requires Composites+Computers.. Hits 1 tile)

[75% SDI should be moved up to requiring Composites, Robotics, AND Fiber Optics... and perhaps have two levels, one with tech requirements of only Satelites + Computers with a 25% of interception]
And All cheaper (MAD should be an Option)

I would prefer to find it in the standard game. Otherwise, such an assumed mod for sure would be one of my first choices to put onto my hd.

I don't see how it's going to be in the standard game the way the interface is built up. I also see it as a custom-type option not really required in the Play Now! section of Single-Player.

In Custom game you already got a tab for leader and one for Civ, you cant change the civ one currently, it just changes depending on what leader you pick. Custom-Game just happen to share the exact same interface with Multiplayer.

For quicker access to the Info Center, Thunderfall has added a link in the Civ4 drop-down menu located at the top of the page, as seen here:

Thanks TF!

Gilgamesh of the Sumerians and Justinian of Byzantine have been added to BtS according to Eurogamer preview.
There is also some info about espionage, missions become cheaper if a spy remains longer in a city, and some missions are unlocked only if you reach a number of espionage points.

Thank God they put in Justinian instead of Theodora. Talk about historical oversight.

It looks like just about all the civs I predicted would be in are.

They also mentioned "Tokugawa" has been added, but he's already in! So I guess we have a new Japanese leader and they made a mistake.

Did anyone else notice this statement?

Addition of 25 new units, 18 new buildings, 16 new leaders, ten new civilizations and eight new wonders.

Eight new wonders? They originally said five plus the Aposlte (sp?). Looks like they've located a few more!
