I did see a screen shot of the "Unit Formation Editor" for Civ4 in a magazine. It allows you to lay out the formation, direction, and animation of the guys by game state.

I am going to get the game anyway, so...

And just wondering: did anyone get Civ3 just for the editor? :mischief:

I will have to wait to gget a new computer before I get the game o.O/

But, when I first got civ 3, I wouldn't even go near the editor aside from my (trashy)map making.

It was only until about a mounth after I got it, I started changing different civ's names in the editor, as well as traits and leader names, titles, citys, ect.

Then it was about half a year later when I got conqquests, and I decided to (try) to mod in units, buildings, techs and resourses using existing images. Now (just over a year later) I'm planning a DyP mod...

thats a great point......my computer will barely run the game..so unless the editor allows me to customize the requirements.lol...i wont be to concerned about the editor

For $50, I will buy it no matter what I can do with the editor, i dont do very much modding so for me it doesnt really matter.

I think there will be two kinds of modding in Civ4. Simple modding will be possible by creating custom scenarios and changing rules, just as in Civ3. There may be more options available than in Civ3 but it will be essentially like this. Then there will be advanced modding, outside the editor, using tools such as XML and Python. I'll be interested in both, but I think the second kind of mod will only appear after a while, and it will be projects of several people.

The editor is essetial to me. It allows me to take out (some of) the aspects that I don't like.
I would have played Civ3 much less if I had to play it "out of the box".

At the same time I don't want to learn python, or anything else. I think that an editor of the level of Civ3 is barely-ok. It was very infuriating because many things could not be done from within the editor and some things could have been made simpler, but it was much better than nothing

I am rather confident that the editor will be great. Nevertheless, I'll buy the game either way.

The only things I play are scenario and mods. I never play epic games so if the editor sucks I will not buy it.

WE WANT TRIGGERS!

scenrios were so much easier to make when we could set up triggered events

You're getting scripting, which is even more powerful.

Sure, but I have taught non-programmers how to do simple scripting in a day.

I totally reworked civilization II many years ago, and wish I had saved the mods I created.. I redesigned units, ai, everything. I even once created a unit that could terraform land in Civilization II (Change sea to land). Has anyone made a unit that can do that in Civilization IV?
