Civ IV to ship before Halloween!?!

are u sure it is a rush job

we have been seein game footage for months maybe they have been play testin it this whole time and are satisfied with the product
It's extremely easy to produce screenshots before a game is really ready. Look at the first shots released of AoE3 waaaaaay back when.

They probably are rushing this game out the door, but i'm convinced it will be less buggy then Civ III was. Besides, all will be fixed with patches.

Just like the Scientific Golden Age and Submarine bugs in C3C to mention a few that didn't get fixed? The attitude of "oh we'll just fix it in a patch" should NOT be the reason they release the game early.

Bad news, folks. My philosophy here is the same as anywhere else. Do *not* rush anything under any circumstances.

Why is everyone so pessimistic.

They've been play testing the thing for a year... maybe there aren't any bugs that they know of at this point.

sheesh.

Maybe they should release it two years from now? Why is later better?

That's like the people who say that they shouldn't make the graphics good because that means that they didn't have time to make the game good.

Silly pessimistic people.

The game's ready. They're done. You'll have your game two weeks earlier.

All you hand wringers - maybe people will find a couple of bugs when millions of people are playing the game.. every program has bugs, but maybe this group of 200 people aren't going to find and fix any more bugs in an extra two weeks.

Getting anything in ahead of schedule is not good under any circumstances.

Edit: Exaggeration. :p

What I mean is, rushing anything, is bad. if they can work at a normal pace, ok.

i think they are done the game in summer. THink about it, they have had so much time and they have been testing their online games for months now. I think releasing the game near the hollowdays was the work of their marketing department and not their producers.

The reason they might want the game early is becuse of all the other stratigy games comming out like AOE III... People gaming is 99% marketing and they dont ship their games the next day its ready.

THey have been takein their sweet time and i think i would be great to have the game out as soon as possible.

Well, they said a while ago that they were in tweak and polish, so maybe a 2 week shift in the schedule isn't far-fetched or risky.

I'm not excited about this at all. I would rather wait a few more weeks and get a game with most of the bugs ironed out. I think it's just a stunt for Take2 to get some more money in before the end of the fiscal year. I wouls rather get Civ 4 as a Christmas present than a Halloween prank. :(

edit: that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to the game, I just don't want them to rush it.

I dont imagine 2 weeks would make that much difference

I did not say two years, in fact, I said two weeks. Before I make any more comments, I would like to hear from an official source WHY they are moving this up. Are they truly done, if so, great.

"The game's ready. They're done." Really? Do you work for them or is this pure speculation?

considering how quickly they showed off an almost complete civ4 at the last E3, they'll ship a finished game.
even if you get your official answer, we all know it's obvious they won't throw stones at the same people who publish their game in public.

Yes. :band: Now I can actually get this on my birthday.

The only way for a game to be truely tested is to realease it. Then you have thousands of people doing the stuff you would of never though of doing, therfore it would take a whole lot less time to find bugs.

I know what you said, but surely they could find even more bugs if they kept testing it for a few years. 2 weeks might not be enough time!

Seems by their stock information page that they moved it forward a couple of weeks to get it into this quarter, because they lost a lot of money with the hot coffee escapades.

 Maybe the final two weeks was when they were going to program the AI and add capacity points to the infinate railroad system!!
