I just went through a reformat of my hard drive and a reinstall of XP--with the update to SP3. Now, Civ IV won't install at all. At first, the option to click Install would appear, but then it would hang. I've tried rebooting about ten billion times and nothing has worked. Now, all I get is the Sid Meier's Civilization 4 in the task bar, but nothing appears on the screen. What is the problem?

Well, that figures. I went into the Event Viewer to check for log entries, but couldn't find any that matched my problem. So, I decided to try the reinstall again to get a log entry...and it installed with no problems. It's like taking a car to the mechanic, telling them it makes a funny noise, and while the car is in the shop, it works just fine. Ultimately, nothing was different between this time and the umpteen other times I tried reinstalling yesterday, so I don't have any idea why it works--but I'm not going to punch a gift horse in the mouth
