Civ V getting stale...any tips?

Why does playing on marathon make it better?

Yes I agree. Marathon seems like it makes for much better games..more time fighting in each era...standard games you can go through an entire era without making any units from that era at all...Doesnt really happen in marathon games...

Also I am pretty limited to Civ V. I moved to my dads recently and we basically live off the grid lol. Satellite internet is pretty terrible. I used to play Starcraft II and XBL games..but Civ V is all i really have atm that doesnt require high speed internet to play.

I think CIV IV: BTS is actually laying around somewhere but I would rather stick with whats new..the updates will be coming and the mods will be coming in as well I would think.

I didn't see anyone post here that you can use mods to totally change the game. Yeah, new buildings, new wonders, totally different stats. I've only played a few mods though. One that I played only once, but thought was OK, was "Bronze Age Warfare." Technology advancement was v-e-r-y slow, so you were stuck in the Bronze age (but so was everyone else).

One mod that I have played many times is Graves' "History in the Making II." Cool thing about this one is that you can build bomb shelters & the SDI to sort of protect yourself against nukes. Plus you can build some of the Civ IV wonders such as Broadway & Hollywood which gives you more luxuries to keep & sell.

I almost always play (even vanilla games) with the PerfectWorld 3 map mod.

lol yeah.
if you overplay it or overanalyze it any game will get stale and boring really fast
because once you figure out a game's mechanics "tactics" its basically like going thru a checklist

set yourself up with challenges like every 3rd city MUST be GP farm or
the first AI you meet is instantly declared war on and never make peace

something random and fun :D
