Civ VI Funny/Strange Screenshots

Trajan is no ordinary monopolist, he also holds the monopoly on all existing monopolies:

Maui? Who's she? ;) Only Monopolies&Corporations mode, nothing heroic or legendary, just plain business. And no mods. Standard size fractal map.

I encountered a similar problem today: My neighbor, Egypt, had a piece of Cotton and a piece of Dye within her border. I later scouted the whole continent, and found that those 2 copies of Cotton and Dye were the only ones in the entire world. On resource screen they also show up as "1/1 Monopolies"; and Cleopatra didn't have Maui (In fact I grabbed Maui).

Guess the Corporation mode messed up resource generation a bit.

Got bless Himiko, she is a game changer. Nevermind, thus I levied Lissabon and this is what I got

Just check the coastal line - I didn't realize it first - I can't dis-embark all thoses units - the cliffs make a solid wall from Tarsus to the left bottom corner of the sceen.
Thats a challenge, but if Im seeing things right, you can place 3 archers on the 3 tiles to the north of the city on that little island, and even besiege it by placing the melee units around it embarked, you might lose some unit but if you time it right you should be able to take the city, just bring one of your land units, get support from that general and tthe crossbowman + anything I dont see in the vicinity, or buy it in tushpa, you have more than enough gold  Did you stop the push there or did you grab the city?

Vietnam shenanigans encore

When you're 22 techs behind the Mayans but just don't care because your one guy with a bow is Daryl Dixon (skirmisher vs tank):

Surely I grabbed all of their cities. 3x crossbows with 3-4 promotions + GG + Himiko + +5 Ranged Str from WC smash the walls. All I needed was some cannon fodder so archers served me well.
Not a deal in my current game, but that long cliff coast was a surprise - I never paid that much attention to the cliffs because I used to see some holes in the cliff lines - in another situation it may be a loss (

I don't think I recognize those city names. Which mod is it?

It's called Rosetta - Dynamic City Names. Changes all the City names according to whoever owns the city (which includes when you capture them.)

It's a bit buggy on some Civs. Phoenicia's still ,egregiously, uses the LPQY and MTY consonant blocks, and Khmer's city list is a mess, but otherwise it's a nice little mod. Eleanor's cities are in Occitan, Cleo's are in Greek and Qin's are by their old Chinese name for instance. Pretty neat.

I'm also using Better Civ Colours and Better Icons, which changes the Icons and Jerseys to a more appealing palette.

That's some adequate Vampire Castle planning done by AI (you can still see the Kongolese vampire at the top left corner):

Although 2 turns later I moved my Settler on the stones, founding a city for grabbing the luxuries, which destroyed the Vampire Castle in the process, similar to how capture an enemy city would destroy the UI.

Not to derail, but I just wanted to say that I've tried to add vowels for Phoenicia's names where I can find good references - so if you know of any good resources, please let me know!

I'm also not super happy with the Khmer romanization scheme either - currently Rosetta uses the UNGEGN transliteration scheme (which I think is largely the same as the US's BGN/PCGN system?) which is a little exuberant with its diacritics - but I'm in the market for an alternative system if you know of any!

Are you willing to use reconstructions? In many cases knowing the Hebrew vocalization can give you a pretty solid "guess" as to the Phoenician equivalent. Attestations in Greek and Latin can also be helpful. LPQY should be Lepqī. KTY should be Kittī (also attested as Kittīm). I'm not finding anything that looks like MTY, but could it be a typo for the Phoenician city of Marat (modern Amrit)? I'd be happy to send you my list of Phoenician place names from my reconstructed conlang, but NB that some of them are speculative and a few of them are highly speculative--but I'd mark them as such. My work is based mostly on Krahmalkov's Phoenician grammar and lexicon, supplemented by Strong's Concordance (for comparison with Hebrew) among other resources.

"mty" is the phoenician colony of "motya". I believe its phonetic spelling is "motye" or similar.

Looking at the Wikipedia page, it firstly should be MṬW, not MTY, but more importantly it looks like the Greek and Latin names are simply to make the name more comfortable for Greek speakers. Assuming that the proposed etymology is wrong and that it is in fact a Phoenician transliteration of a Siculi name, I'd guess Moṭo or Moṭwa (or perhaps Moṭwe). If the proposed etymology is correct, I'd suggest that the W is a misreading for R (the glyphs are similar-ish and could be mistaken if not written clearly or if the inscription is damaged) and the name should be Moṭri or some such.

Errr... I'm pretty sure you're right. I'm also pretty sure I understood maybe a quarter, at best of what you just wrote.

Yeah I have it as Mtw in my database. I'm definitely open to using reconstructions though! I think I have some in there already perhaps. I tried to look at some of what the Paradox Imperator game used, but iirc I kept coming to a source that went a bit past 'Phoenician is related usefully to Hebrew' and into more 'Phoenician is just Hebrew' territory, so it wound up not being as useful as I had hoped.

tl;dr: I think Wikipedia is mistaken one way or another. :p

Yeah, Phoenician and Biblical Hebrew are very closely related, but not so closely as to be the same language or even mutually intelligible. I'll PM you what I have so we don't drag this thread too far off topic. :)

Finally found a good place to put a desert preserve in one of my games, and i took the opportunity wanting to know if they really just let the district grow pine trees in the middle of a desert - I was pleasantly surprised to find they actually do use palm trees! Absolutely adore how this looks, wanted to share here as many people might not get a good desert preserve spot and so never end up seeing this! I'll update later with how this looks after construction finishes and with each of the buildings.

In my last game I built a Preserve next to two tiles of Sahara al-Beyda in a city with Petra with Nazca Lines. That was delightful.
