In Quill18's video, which I assume is what you're referencing, he mentioned that the strategic view is in, making the game less taxing if people want to play on a tablet. There are many touchscreen machines that can handle PC games these days (in fact I'm typing this on one now).
I imagine if you have read/watched everything released today you'll agree it will be a true entry into the Civ franchise and is not a civrev clone. Can we please stop propagating this fallacy now?
Quill18 didn't say the UI was being optimised for those who play on tablet. He made an off-hand comment that those who play on tablet would find strategic view easier to deal with (strategic view was absent in CivBE). He was referring to that group of people that already play civ on a tablet. We have no information about whether there will be an official Civ6 tablet port, or whether people will just play on tablets the way they already do.
Furthermore, the argument that Civ6 is a CivRev clone speaks to a gameplay comparison, not a platform comparison. If both end up being available to play on similar platforms, that does not mean they are the same game; there is no reason why a tablet Civ6 would have to be less complex than any other main iteration in the series. No valid gameplay comparison can be drawn from the fact of strategic view existing, or the UI being friendlier.
Presumably if they were just interested in making a CivRev clone, they would have put more effort into CivRev2, and advertised it harder.
Note that Civ V after a few years had direct support for touch screens, it was just in a separate exe file.
So it's not surprising at all that Civ VI should support touch screens.
With Microsoft's Surface Pros marketed as a cross between a tablet and a laptop, it should definitely be possible to play Civ VI on recent up-scale tablets, but personally I'd want a much bigger monitor when playing Civ VI than a regular tablet has. (And even a bigger monitor than the smaller laptops come with)
It's also not just those with tablets that wanted strategic view; I used that in late game for Civ V BNW simply to eliminate late game graphic related lags after there were lots of cargo ships / caravans / city state units wondering around.
So this game isn't going to be available on iPad and iPhone anytime soon? I've seen multiple requests for Civ VI to be available on these platforms and on consoles. Is that why the gameplay seems to be being dumbed down?

One thing I will never understand about this site. It's seemly there for people that love the game. I mean, the name is.....? Yet it seems outright trolling is protected. I'm guessing I violated a rule here. If I insinuated that people who like it are morons I'd be a protected species. I think I just screwed up twice in one post.
Please read my posts on other threads including those concerning the new "district system", which I have taken the position of it making Civilization more like Ed Beach's board games and less like a complex computer game.
I understand that many, if not most, Civilization players these days only experience playing any version of the game is that of those who have only played Civ Revolutions on either their phone, tablet or on their console and have never actually experienced playing the actual Civilization computer game.
Firaxis is a for profit business whose primary goal is to make money. The best way to do this, is to appeal to as broad of a demographic as is possible, most of which are of the group that has or would play Civilization Revolution or a game like it. Firaxis is not Tarn Adams, and I get that. They aren't trying to make a complex and deep game meant for those who want an intellectual challenge, but those who play video games casually. This is the same reason why the number one game on iPhone is Clash of Clans.
I am being completely serious and my concerns that Civ VI is going to be optimized for casual play is a valid one.

I heard something said in a video and I asked a question. I a fan of Civilization and would like the game to be as good as it can be and not be watered down to appeal to a casual demographic.

Dude, if you and I sat down and played Here We Stand, I HIGHLY doubt you'd say it was simple. Don't make out like players are some sort of intellectual elite. I have some sad news. You are sir, are a game player, just like, me. If you think it's being simplified, and I think you mentioned it several times. We get it.
Is there any evidence the preview builds people played last week and reported on this week were casual?
I just finished reading the RPS article and city-states taking sides in wars of their own volition is about as far from Clash of Clans as 1UPT is from stacking.

Here We Stand is a board game, not a computer game. Ed Beach is a board game designer. I like Civilization because it is a computer game. I like Settlers of Catan because it is a board game.
I'd like to think that many people choose to play Civilization due to its educational aspects and not as a time killer. You're giving very little credit to those who have enjoyed and played Civilization for over 2 decades.
Civ VI is not be simplified, it is being complicated. I want elegant complexity, not arbitrary complicatedness. I want simple. I am getting complicated. I am getting game mechanics that make no sense. Universities are now only able to be built in the rural countryside miles away from my city with no penalty for distance. Island cities (which are very common in real life http://www.islandcities.org) are now all but obsolete as a result of this district system. Wonders such as the pyramids (which in real life are only about 300 feet tall) are portrayed as being the size of an entire city and thousands of feet tall.
In terms of complexity, I think the civ franchise has increased quite a bit since the early 90s. Luckily, this increased complexity has gone hand in hand with increased enjoyment with each iteration.
It's a great game franchise and will probably always stay that way.

Do you really want me to spend many hours explaining to you how unrealistic and idiotic thousands of things are in Civ IV? No you don't. "We" is the majority here but I'll try not to use "we" in the future though.....and I will try and let you toil away at your mission un-interuppted by me if I can.
A very large portion of the demographic which plays and presumably enjoys playing Civilization are causal gamers. Civilization Revolution and Civilization Revolution 2 are the two most commonly played iterations of the series and sell hundreds of thousands of copies every year. I understand that I am in the minority in wanting a deep and intellectually stimulating game which requires the player to think, while most players want a fun strategy game that doesn't require large amounts of their time and effort to enjoy. This being said, I am not the only person who has criticized the look of and gameplay aspects of this new game. The "cartoony" look of graphics is a common complaint based on a cursory glance of either these forums or twitter.
There are many aspects of Civ IV which I believe could have been improved upon. I have several threads outlining what I would like to have seen in a Civ VI game.
