Civ VII PC system requirements are now available!

I have difficulty seeing why with preset high from fhd to uhd cpu requirement skyrockets if comparison point is 60fps.

If CPU does not limit at fhd it usually do not limit uhd either when using same 60 fps.

Maybe reference point is not 60 fps, but some ”ultra” gaming experience where turn times etc are factor?

I appreciate the openness in telling us what they actually mean by their categories rather than just vague "minimum" and "recommended". It'd be nice if they included average times for processing turns - my Switch experience tells me that's important too!

It's been ages since I bought my PC and I can't remember what the specs are beyond RAM and SSD sizes. Is there a way of bringing up the spec on the computer?

Most of this info can be found in "System Information." Type that in the Windows search bar.

CPU and RAM will be in the main screen, among other bits of info. For your GPU, click "Components" on the left side and select "Display." Also under "Components" is "Storage" where you can see what kind of storage drive you have.

No. You're probably confused because 1080p refers to the vertical pixel count and "4K" refers to the horizontal pixel count. That's marketing for you!

The aspect ratio commonly called 1080p has 1920x1080 pixels for a total of 2,073,600 pixels. The aspect ratio commonly called 4K has 3840x2160 pixels for a total of 8,294,400 pixels. That's a ratio of 4x.

You can easily verify this by checking pretty much anywhere.
That's correct except 1080p and 2160p aren't aspect ratios, 16:9 is

You're right, of course. They're resolutions! And they're both 16:9, unfortunately. I'm still rooting for a 16:10 comeback. Laptops are going that way. Maybe larger monitors will, too!

The specs are about where I expected them. Pretty approachable on the low end, and indeed the space requirements are modest by today's standards. Especially since an SSD is not required. The GTX 1050 makes sense as a target, as in 2020 an 2021 it was often the only GPU available that didn't cost a fortune, and the 1050 and 1050 Ti account for just under 3% on the Steam hardware survey today.

Probably the top remaining question from what's listed is whether there will be any support for Intel integrated graphics, as there is in Civ VI. Wouldn't be surprised if the answer is "to be determined" with the release still several months away.

Also appreciate that this is available now, so there's plenty of time for people to decide whether they need to upgrade and what to upgrade to.

What's the reason for a game that doesn't need real time decisions to be running at 60 fps? If I'm ok watching a movie at 30 fps, I'll be fine playing Civ VII at 30 fps too
Have you actually played Civ 6 at 30fps? Even playing at 60 compared to 120 has a noticeably slower response to input.

Also, image quality suffers greatly on OLED due to near instant pixel response. Games at 30fps look overly choppy.

Wouldn't that be an 8:5 ratio?

Maybe mathematically, but not display marketing.

You can buy hundreds of 16:10 displays and laptops, but not very many 8:5.

Okay that just annoys me.

4:3, 16:9, etc, all good, they are genuinely different. But 16:10 makes no sense mathematically.

thanks man

Howdy All

Can you all look over my specs and weigh in on performance most all hit High performance but some with Medium. I plan on getting the Founder's Edition.

Surface Studio
Chip I7 Gen 11. 1137OH 3.3 Ghz
Ram 32 Gigs
Direct X 12
Geforce RTX 3050 TI Laptop GPU 4 gig dedicated
Best Resolution Monitor Setting 2400 x 1600 120HZ
FPS - 60
Storage - 20 gig's +
Windows 11 64 Bit

Any positive or negative input is more than welcomed.

Thanks

I do not know if I understood the question, but here goes.

I would estimate that gpu requirements are checked for perspective of gpu memory also.

Your card is 4gb card. Medium preset is recommended for 2060 which is 6gb card and rx 6600 which is 8gb card.

Things really start to suffer if gpu runs out of memory. So I estimate that your settings need to be < medium for steady 60 fps. And resolution is that 1080p. At your native resolution you run out of memory for sure.

Could someone help me parse my computer specs in terms of the specs for Civ VII? Since they've gone into model numbers rather than performance, I don't really get what means what lol

Specifically, my CPU is Intel Core i5-9400F @ 2.9GHz, 2904Mhz, 6 Core, 6 logical processers and my GPU is NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super.

You are very close to the recommended system requirements for the game.
Your cpu is equivalent while your gpu is about 15% slower than the RTX 2060.
Hope that helps.

Nothing makes me realize how long I've stayed content with a computer than the smack in the face of a brand new desired Civ edition!

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz 4.01 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, 32 GB RAM

At least the RAM is not an issue. But I guess an 8 year old computer shouldn't be shockingly on the way to left behind in gaming graphics. <sigh> Oh, well, I was going to need a new machine anyway if I wanted to avoid being orphaned by Microsoft.

1080 equals quite close to the recommended category 2060.

But 6700k cannot just reach the minimum 10100f. But then again it surpasses the later added 4690.

So cpu wise you are at minimum and gpu wise around recommended.

P.s. And there are tools that allow you to update to windows 11 by bypassing the hw requirement check. As of today those window installations work well. Tool is called ”rufus”.

Check out the full list of PC system requirements for Sid Meier's Civilization VII here. Thanks for your patience everyone!🙇‍♀️

*Edit (Oct 4): We've updated the Minimum specs and Recommended graphics preset since this was first published to better reflect expected performance.
