Warlord
anyone remember barbarians from civ2? the warriors, musketeers, dragoons, and partisans? whatever happened to them? u've all had this happen before in civ3: its 1950 or so, ur building modern armor like there's no tomorrow, u've got a bit of landed that "fog-of-war-ed" out, a barbarian tribe appears, and... a warrior comes out. why are they still generating warriors?! in order to present more of a challenge or, at the very least, to be more plausible, barbarians must tech advance.
and how about amphibious landings and peasant uprisings? i stopped caring about barbarian ships in my first civ3 chieftain game when i realized that they present almost no threat when they're not preparing to dump a bunch of enemies near a major city. as for peasant uprisings... i know that i'd revolt is i was one a civilian in my average civ3 city :-D
