Civ2 in Civ3

I've played until 1350. We have RP but no rubber on our entire continent, but luckily on the small Carthaginian island close to our core. There is a galleon with a 3 cav army in Halil that can sail next turn to go get us the rubber. That would mean war with Carthage, which is justified by getting the rubber I think, but that would need consent of the team, so this is a good time to handover I think.

Artillery has already made life a lot easier for us, and so did the rails.

Analyzing the situation. We're a monarchy with a nice collection of wonders. We have no happines issues, we're doing -7gpt at 100% science, which is not too bad, but our economy could be stronger.

I will put a fair amount of cities on settlers or workers for founding farms and irrigation.

Sell market in Utica. At 0% science it would only pay for it's own maintenance according to CA2, but we're doing 100% science now, and moreover it will become a farm, so we do not need the 5th and 6th happy face.

We have 47 workers (18 native, 29 slaves) for 58 cities, we need more. And we need to control the unit support. For this we need more cities and more specialists in corrupt towns. Start 6 settler builds and 6 wokers in cities that were on wealth.

We're now on -34gpt. To compensate for this I disband a few regular units in core cities that are looking like MPs but are not needed as such.

IBT Bingol is shelled by an Egyptian frigate, at Busiris a Bab unit dies attacking the city. 1-0.

1295: RP in 7, -30 gpt. Shell and kill 3 Japanese units near Myce. Kill 3 Egyptian cavs near Busiris. 7-0. Railing.

IBT Ottomans want to talk, I say no (want peace in the turn instead of in the IBT to counter any happines issues), then they land a knight and LB near Avaris. Japan and Carthage sign peace. We lose a cav by an Egyptian cav coming out of nowhere. 7-1.

1300: RP in 6, -32 gpt. Kill 2 Egyptian and 2 Ottoman units. 11-1. Start moving cannon stack towards Busiris under army cover.

IBT Ottos land 4 units near Avaris. Sammy dies attacking Busiris. 12-1.

1305 AD: Cav army conquers and razes Pithom killing 3 units in the process, gaining 2 slaves. 14-1. Kill 3 Otto units near Avaris redlining the fourth but army is seriously injured now. Sign peace with Ottos. 17-1

IBT 4 Japanes units die attacking Busiris . 21-1

1310 AD: RP in 4, -35 gpt. We kill 4 Egyptian cavs and a Japanes pike. 25-1. Railing. Pillage some roads E of Busiris as Egyptinan cavs use these to get to our core.

IBT Egypt lands 1 sword near Arte.

1315 AD: RP in 3, -36 gpt. Kill 3 Egyptian units. 28-1. Phocae founded. Rush harbor in Busiris for acces to resources there, want to upgrade the cannons to artillery there.

IBT Not much

1320 AD: RP -2 , -29 gpt. Shell and sink a Babylonian galley. Kill 3 Egyptinian units. 32-1.

IBT Not much

1325 AD: RP in 1 at 40 %. Sell electricty for 320 gpt to Persia. We get a MGL near Busiris killing a Samurai. Kill 5 Egyptinian units and 1 Japanese. 7th cav army goes to pillage the Egyptian salt. Gortyn founded. 38-1.

IBT RP comes in, medicine in 8 at 100% and 282 gpt, due to the Persian deal.

1330: We do not have rubber. Nearest source is Calaris on small Carthaginian island. Will load next army with 3 cavs only to ship it and get the rubber. Upgrade 11 cannon to artillery. Kill 4 Egyptinian units. 42-1

1335: Sink a Babylonian galley. 43-1

1340: Artillery rocks! Edfu falls after artillery has redlined the 2 defenders. We raze it and gain 4 slaves. Kill 3 Egyptinian units and 4 Japanese, but loose 2 Crusaders. Found 2 more farm towns. 52-3

1345: Kill 3 Egyptinian units and 3 Japanese, sink a Babylonian galley. 59-3.

1350: Kill 3 Egyptinian units and 4 Japanese, Nagasaki is razed. 64-3. 5th has pillaged Egyptian salt and now goes for the iron. 7th cav kils 2 units in Buto and razes it. 69-3.

Checking the save, I see no reason stopping us from DOWing Carthage. This is a resource-shy map as far as Rubber goes, I only see 3 Rubber tiles total, and Babylon has 2. Edit: Found 2 more, in Persia.

Sounds good to me, go get em Overseer. I am not surprised as we missed out on most of the resources. BTW I am using a a 31 color patlette. I know it is Darski's on my main system, but I am not sure if I have it on this one.

So that is why my colors are different. I looked at ThinkTank's screen and said what game is this? Then I realized those are the default colors.

I'm almost done with a busy turn-set, got Egypt and Japan on the ropes, then we can start on Carthage. We have Infantry and Artillery, can build armies, and have lots of Cavalry armies. I just need to remember to not fully load our armies. I'll try to get the save out later.

Sounds good! Take it easy, I did not intend to rush you, just wondered whether you were playing,

Finished a very successful turn-set, pretty much have Japan and Egypt defeated, My only mistake was accidentally loading a 4th Cavalry into 2 armies which leaves them landlocked. Make sure any new armies stay "light" so as to fit into Galleons. Here is my turn-log:

Another army in the North kills Rifle and Pike, capturing Helios. 3 Cavalry kill
Musket, Pike and Spear, capturing Abydos. Set up to attack Alexandria and maybe Giza next. Upgrade several Muskets and short-rush 2 Infantry, this will free up the armies to be attackers only. Waste the 2 Bab Bowmen and Sword. I think they might be our next target after Egypt, Japan and Carthage.

IBT: Egypt pulls another Cavalry out of their nether regions and kills a Crusader.

Now you know why I did not sell the market in Utica. The moment we attack Carthage, they are going to be unhappy. It cost us nothing to keep and when the slider drops could pay us a bit.

No reason to make any peace in this game. Then if a flip happens, just take it back. We do not need any trades or deals.

ThinkTank I presume you are not going to play right now and would play this evening, is that correct?

I will play some now and keep an eye on the thread. If I see you say you are ready. I will post the save back. If not will post later today.

Now you know why I did not sell the market in Utica. The moment we attack Carthage, they are going to be unhappy.

Yeah, I didn't realize this as we were at peace with Carthage at that time.

ThinkTank I presume you are not going to play right now and would play this evening, is that correct?

There was a change of plan in RL meaning I cannot play before Friday, so go ahead and have fun.

I will be able to play Friday evening around 9 PM Amsterdam time, I think you're in Florida which has a 6 hour time diff.

Update so far, not sure how much more will do, but a little.

PRE:
Not going to do much, drop slider to 40. Not sure what the galleon was going to do, but I unload the cavs. Will be taking down Urfa and Bingol after peace ends.
Carthage and Utica I put on wealth for now and flip one pop in each to science. Not going to have any more riots.

IBT:
Bab caravel nearly sinks a loaded galleon, with no escort.

1405AD:
SciMeth comes in and I drop research to zero and select AT. Switch palace to ToE and it is done with an over run of 35 shields. Very nice job on that one guys.

Need to get all galleons over to the same side. My choice would be to hit Carthage first. So I will head them there, one is already set.

Ok, I will flip all the scientist to tax for this one round, ugh.

Dail up the Sultan and DOW. Rail to position to bombard Bingol.
5/5 cav kills rifle. cav kills rifle and we capture it.
Run over a settler and rail to Bingol. Abandon it and found new town.
No more flips.

Bombard and kill Ottoman MDi with 5/5 cav.

Need to rush a lib in the new town to get our roads out of Ottoman culture. Will send some units to get it started. Never mind, will found a junk town instead.

8th kills Egyptian LB and the town autorazed.

I upgraded a 5/5* mdi.

I moved the elite MDI in Phar as it can use the MP. I moved the 2 elite crusaders into the capitol for MP.

If you need an elite check the capitol. I doubt we will need them though.

Disband the 3/3 sword from Athens in the harbor project in Argos. Not sure I would make any harbor though. We will make only galleon/transports. Maybe two destroyers, but regulars are fine for them.

Move the two elite LB to Buce and disband the 3/3 hop in Argos.
Move all parked units into a town, except armies.

Stop wall in Avaris and put up a taxman, will be scientist next turn. Just to get a happy face in town, till the road is ours.

Stopped a bunch of worker and some settler builds. Don't really want more workers to deal with as we don't need to improve the land all that much. Won't need to send them on other lands, just raze towns and use the slaves.

Not a lot of need for a settler in 30 turns either. Let a few go to rush in a later turn. I would only fill our land and forget the others. We will just kill everyone.

In fact I kill all walls.

Stop the 74 turns to go artillery. We have enough already.
Sell a few harbors.

Found some barracks to sell as we get them replaced free. May as well take the few gold.

Going to starve Arte down to size 3. Then we will have 1 pop for specialist. Now it has size 5 and no specialist.

Megara switch infantry to worker. Once it pops next turn will go to lone specialist.
Use a CE to speed up a lib.

1410AD:
No pre for Hoover, so start in Buce. Cannot use the army as no river in Athens.
Get At and Electronics from ToE and start Industry at 100% in 8. Need to flip taxmen back to science and see how we fare.
4th kills two spear in last town for Japan and they are gone.

swap taxmen and still 7 turns. Need more farms going.
5/5 kills spear in Urfa and makes a leader.
cav kills one and captures the town.
9th kills Egyptian cav.

found town.
Sink galley (Bab).

Delphi is unhappy. I add another MP and switch to market in 5.
Thess needs an MP to be calm.

rush a settler in Pha.
I rush 3 or 4 more settlers. We are going to have to fill the land or DOW all nations to prevent them from getting a toe hold. I will kill any landers, regardless. Persia is the only one with a deal going and it ends in 3 turns. I would not make any further deals that are require payments.

Ping 4 ships red.

IBT:
2 cavs attack Urfa.
Fr land settler so it is going to be on.

1415AD:
9th kills 3 rifles and cav in Asyut.
8th kills Fr mdi, and 2 lb to capture settler.
Army pops out, 12th.

Disband hop and 2 crusaders in Memphis for a settler and to bust the resistance.
11th now has 3 units and kills 2 Egyptian rifles.

1420AD:
9th kills LB and captures Asyut and some gold, maybe 92? Cleo is gone.
Found town.
6th kills 3 Fr units in Grenoble and captures it. No French on the mainland now. Only two Persian towns.

We may or may not make peace down the line with France. They are the only nation that shares land with someone.

Found town.
Found town.
Found town.

We only have one source of coal? I see one between us and Persia, there may be others.
Ping 3 boats red.

I start temple and will use CE's to speed it up. This is to both expand borders and to get a bit of happy in Alexandria.

1425AD:
Found town.

Note to self, use galleon heading towards Arte to ship over a few units to Mendes.

1435AD:
Xerxes lands a settler combo near Ise and 4th whacks them. No landings allowed now.
10th kills spear in Ise and captures it for 4 gold and a settler.
A little slow on Menedes as a bow is landed. Cav kills it and frigate sinks the caravel.

Send two cav armies, one for each end of Zohak.
5/5 cav kills lb.
5/5 cav kills lb, so no units outside of Zohak now.

Start 4 galleons in crap towns, but we need to have them to invade and they have to be on the east side or take forever to reach it. We will need to rush them.

We have 3 galleons and once they can reach Herakela, we can launch on Hannibal.

1440AD:
Start Corp in 5.
Switch Hoover and Army to factory. Will slap in a plant in both and then go back to the prior builds. I am too lazy to see if we actually save turns on Army and Hoover, but we will at least end up with factories in the same time frame.

2 armies kill an infantry and 2 pikes and capture Zohak.
Switch to factory in Sparta so it can make the US. Not so much that we need it, but so they do not get its help.

Sink Bab caravel.

1445AD:
Found town

I do not bombard ships as I want to let them land now, so we can kill the units. No need for them to pile up to oppose our invasion. I just wanted to get the land under better control.

1455AD:
Found town
Starving Hippo down as it will not give any specialist at current (4) size.

1460AD:
found 2 towns.

I stop Hippo at size 3, still get 1 scientist.
Babylon landed a pike, mdi and lb on Menedes. Cav retreated, cav kills pike and goes elite. Cav kills MDI, cav kills LB.

Need to get a worker out to use on an airfield later.

1465AD:
Found town.

1470AD:
Found the last town to fill out the mainland, I think.
I forgot to mention we started on Refine last turn.

Sunk Bab caravel.
5/5 kills Bab mdi that landed on Mendes.
Sink Ottoman galleon by Artem.
Cav kills pike by Mendes.

Rushed 4 galleon and will see about invasion of Hannibal. Need to ind how many 3 man armies are around.

1475AD:
Start US in Athens and Hoover in Buce. They finished Coal plans and will need 13 and 15 turns respectively for wonders. It took 7 turns to do the factory and the plant. So we will finish the wonders sooner and have the factory and plants already running. Sweet.

We can build more towns as Specialist farms, in fact we should. Old Egypt should be ICS'ed and parts of old Japan should be too. All those slow Settler builds were to be rushed and become more farms.

We can build more towns as Specialist farms, in fact we should. Old Egypt should be ICS'ed and parts of old Japan should be too. All those slow Settler builds were to be rushed and become more farms.

The problem with that is we do not have enough game left to get a pay back from those area. It will take a long time to get the land cleared and irrigated and railed. The game does not have a long time.

Much of that land is hills and mountains and was broken up a bit by Persia and France. Add to all that that it is more work for the player to track all those build and workers.

I am not saying it is wrong to do it, only more effort than required.

IBT:
Joan wanted peace, but would give nothing. No deal.
Xerxes wants peace and give 100, so deal.

Then the fool signed an MPP with the Ottoman and an embargo with France?

1480AD:
Sink Ottoman frigatee and our frigate goes elite.

Well the invasion will not go off so swell as I expected at least 1 army was left unfilled. All I found were the two I made during this session. Probably will still go with just the 2 and a bunch of infantry and cavs. Not sure as Infantry are rough on even 4 man cav armies.

1485AD:
Hannibal does not have RP.
Start a market in Alexandria now as once the borders pop, it can grow to metro, if you want.

Sink one of the retreating galleons.

1490AD:
Found town in Carthage land and rush barracks.
Note I upgrade about 4 hops as we are short on infantry.
I could only land 3 infantry, 2 crusaders, 2 artillery, 11th and 12th and 4 cavs.

5/5 kills a curious LB.
Sink Ottoman caravel at lol.

5/5 kills num merc in a town and gets a leader. Form army.
Instant replay as 5/5 kills unit there and gets a leader. Form army.
5/5 kills LB and razed the place for 2 slaves.

11th and 12th cover.

Brought over 4 more artillery and 2 infantry and 2 cavs.

Alright I send over 3 settlers.

1495AD:
Persia start US, good luck with that.

Frigate sinks another ship, but will need to heal now. It has only been attacking 1hp boats.

I have been running two crews to clear jungle for a few turns now.

Frigate in Mendes sinks Bab caravel clean.
Finally load 13th and 14th with 3 cavs.

14th kills a num and then retreated on another one.
13th does about the same. Kills one and barely kills another damaged one and razed the city.
Sent two armies to cover them.

Infantry to cover workers.
Switch wall to harbor as we do not need walls here. Only seen a lone LB each turn and it was not able to reach in one move.

IBT:
Bab caravel attacks the frigate by Mendes and dies and we go elite, with no damage.

1500AD:
Sink Carthage boat.
Drop research to zero.

1505AD:
Start on Steel. We have lots of oil, 4 to be exact.
rush harbor in Carthage area to get the ability make rails.

Found another town there.
12th kills 2 nums and a lb and captures Theanae.
11th kills num in Carthago.

Sink Ottoman caravel.
5/5 cav kills Carthage lb.

13th kills 2 nums
14th kills lb and captures Carthgo.
2 5/5 LB kill Fr LB that landed our Carthage and Apoll.

I red line 4 Carthage galleons in that area as they cannot make it home in time and I do not want them to land.

Sell Lib in Menedes, borders popped.

1515AD:
Must have failed to either delineate the action from 1505 to here or not logged 1510 at all?
9th kills inf/rifle and knight at Carthage.
5/5 LB kills the knight.

Sunk a Carthage galleon.
found 2 towns.

1520AD:
13th a 14/14 3 man army went to 3HP without a hit on a rifle and then won all the rounds to kill it.
11th kills 2 nums and I mis-click and raze the last city. I meant to capture it. Sent out the last two settlers to fill the space. Hannibal is gone.

You may want to send over 8 or so workers to speed up the rails. It is the only way to safely remove the armies.

Sank Ottoman galleon on the way home.

Two frigates are just north of old Carthage, they are the escorts.
