Although the request is for MGE or ToT, the latter would be preferable since it's the most advanced incarnation of Civ2 around. It would take a lot more work to bring MGE up to par with ToT than it would to make a few interface adjustments to ToT, eg, the health bar. Remember, we're talking game engine here, not artwork.Joeb Wan Kenobi said:Why are we just tying to get the test of time source code?
Harry Tuttle said:and no, the buyer was never specified. But, the deal was for future additions in the franchise, not the old games. It is highly probable that Civ2 is still with Infogrames.
warpstorm said:I've heard that the buyer bought the rights to the entire franchise. All IP rights - trademark and copyright. The way I heard it Atari is only allowed to sell Civ games for a limited amount of time. But, heh, that's just a rumor, take it with a grain of salt. If that's the case, the new buyer may be more willing.
This whole thing assumes that someone actually kept the source code when Microprose collapsed and shut its doors.
Harry Tuttle said:I haven't heard of anything saying otherwise.
Infogrames Year-End Financial report said:After the close of the first half on September 30, 2004, the Group sold the rights to its Civilization franchise for $22.3 million, generating a onetime gain of 15.5 million euros
Game Daily said:Infogrames retains the rights to publish and distribute previously released Civilization titles and expansion packs through October 2005.
ign said:Infogrames (parent company for Atari) has sold the rights to Civ IV. Atari however will continue to hold the publishing and distribution rights to all previously released Civilization games and expansion packs through October 2005.
HomelanFed - attributed to a phone call to Nancy Bushkin said:Atari will no longer be publishing any more Civilization games, although it still retains the rights to sell its previous Civ games through October 2005.
