Civ3 1.29f Patch ReadMe is here!

You know why they aren't replying today. They're too busy playing PTW, which I believe they do every Thursday. Hell, if I were them, I'd be "testing" too :)

I just hope they remember to release the patch early, thursday evening, before they go home.....like they always do ;)

Does this mean air units like in civ 2?

DAMN! I can't find any diplomacy options in the editor! I hope it's just my stupidity!

Oh well, still a great patch!

Some help needed for us keyboard-challenged types.

That sure would be nice. Also, for us keyboard lovers change 'B' Yesturday I was 'B'ombarding with arty and then 'B'uilt a city by accident.

re diplomacy answer from Firaxis:
It's probably more like:
1-Oh @#^@ we forgot that one, what should we say?
2-Just change the subject or something.

hehe j/k
You Firaxians rock and I love all the Answers in this thread.

OH NO MR. BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote from wotan321:

Like I said earlier in this post, since they didn't include:

1: Starting diplomacy relationships
2: Flat maps
3: Events of any kind
4: Objectives of any kind

they didn't intend for this patch to be anyting like a SP scenario editor. The "scenarios" they want users to make for their PTW Xpack are just advanced maps for MP games. Perhaps, when you buy the XPack, they will include the ability to make SP scenarios like you could do with Civ2.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh MAN!!! There is NO WAY I can play MP due to my machine and work commitments- I can squeeze in Civ 3 but only at variable times- can't be relaliable for MP. So SP is it for me. While I was planning on buying the Xpack for the new little goodies, it was mostly for the SCENIAROS that would be included, but, I was hoping to cut my teeth on some before then, not to mention maybe do some of my own. IF there is indeed no way to set Diplo Status for civs ..... aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! SPLAT!

I hope you are right Nemesis, but ... I've never been able to get Gramphos's tool to work right on my pc. No offense to him, he's put in a hugh amount of work and made a LOT of people happy, GOOD. But right now I don't feel so psyched about the patch in terms of scenario creation. The Diplo status edit ability is pretty basic to that. How could they leave it out? Its enough to make me wonder. If they had just came out and said, you gotta buy the Xpack to get the scenario editor, well a lotta people would have been a little peeved but would have bought it anyway, me included (less the peeved part). But to have had it dangled in front of us and led to believe that this patch would do it, and then it not ... bad. Very bad.

I am Bummed.

I dont think there is any way it could be implemented by a non-firaxian, unless we start hacking the Exe file - and I'm quite sure Gramphos can't be convinced to do that.. (well, he might, but I'm sure he wouldn't distribute it afterwards..:( )

It might be possible to edit a savegame to have the right Diplomacy settings, but there would be no way to, for instance, make sure that the Germans never ally with the British in a WW2 scenario, I think - that kind of info simply isn't stored in the BIC. It's sad, but I'm almost sure it's true - haven't gone through the new bic with a hex-editor myself yet, but i'm sure that if Firaxis had added such capability, they would have given us the info now, instead of shrouding it in darkness.

It would also have been nice for the non-war-mongering types to create a great leader through peace-keeping. Although this is a "civilization" game, it is not a civilized game. Only war mongering types are rewarded for their blatant expansionist policies of constant warfare by getting great leaders to speed their Great Wonders. Ghandi is an example of a GL being created by a culture not based on warfare. How about a reward for the Peaceniks of Civ strategies.

You could always make a leader unit which requires 3 luxuries, or a certain tech to be made(something cultured).

This isn't really a solution, buy a way of adding them into the game without fighting...

. . .Didn't see anything that could solve Settler Diharrea or Culture Flipping, Sorry Zouave :(

You think I'm surprised?? These are the two most important factors to me, and of course Firaxis did nothing about them. Nor did they do anything about making subs and privateers capable of attacking merchant shipping and trade - which would be realistic. Nor do I see anything on Espionage.

Nor do I see anything on being able to change the time scale for so-called scenarios, nor any Diplomacy option that allows us to make sure to mortal enemies do NOT sign any peace treaties or alliances.

I will say this after 1.29: if the game was like this over eight months ago when it first was marketed it would have been acceptable to me, so long as they took the Spring to work out the Settler Diarrhea, Culture Flipping, Stupid AI, and other problems. Instead Firaxis was busy killing bugs and such that should have been exterminated last October at the latest.

So this is an adequate start. The problem is, to Firaxis this is the end. Or will there be future corrections?

No, not unless you mod them that way by removing the immobile tag. It seems that they weren't visible over water in certain circumstances; so they fixed that.

So far my heavily edited mod (posted on the Completed Mods forum) that never crashed can NOT be run anymore. I have it in a new scenarios folder and I just get an error message.

My saved games with that mod don't work.

I will have to spend MANY hours re-editing the whole thing in the HOPE that it works. All this just for the "wake all" function, the most useful I have seen in it. And nothing about Culture Flipping, Settler Diarrhea, attacking trade routes, goofy things the AI does, etc.

Nothing about Diplomacy either for scenarios.

Very irritating. Great that Firaxis fixed some minor things that should have been fixed nine months ago - but there are too many problems.

I CAN'T believe they didn't add diplomacy editing.

I would love to hear Firaxis' excuse as to why things like this are not present...I mean Events would have been nice but not expected, but Diplomacy? This was a MUST HAVE for Scenario Creation, as important as City and Unit placement!

I'm sorry, I don't usually like to pick out the bad points but since this is our "last patch" before PtW, our hopes of real Scenarios are riding on what will or (and most probably) will not be in PtW.

In all that useless info given at F11 it would have been nice to have been given some usefull data.... rather than being last with military service, no matter how large my army, why not some info on how many settllements, or % to dominance.
Being able to fortify all, or wake all, plus an "*" next to my Elite Knight, Sir Arthur, does not make up for all the missed improvements suggested at this web site. Sorry guys but I feel let down.
Zoom Farce: choice of too large or too small
F12 perfect place for everything the advanced player needs to know.
My palace still won't prompt even though I reloaded.. I'm the dominant civ & I live in a hovel. :egypt:
