Civ3 and Windows 11

Any thoughts / tricks for the CD by chance?
The CD itself won’t even start the game after I click “play game”.

I'm not sure about the CD version. If it runs straight from the CD rather than installing to the HDD it definitely won't work, and I don't have any ideas other than trying what others have said earlier in this thread.

I have a problem playing Civ III on my PC. I have a Steam version. I have long played it, but I recently upgraded to Windows 11, and now Civilization won't come up properly. Only about one-fourth of the Civ page comes up; the rest is desktop. Any suggestions?

I tried all the things mentioned and none of them worked. I did get a solution though ...
When I got to this point I went back to windows (Windows + D)
Ran TaskManager
Found the Civilization task
Clicked on the > so that I could see the "subtasks"
Right click on the task "Sid Meier's Civilization III" and picked "Maximize"
Alt + tab back to Civilization. There was a black screen for a couple seconds and then it worked!

It was a combination of all the above that worked for me.

A combination of the High DPI Resolution mentioned on the previous page and
KeepRes=1
PlayIntro=0

Videomode=1024 also made it larger on the screen

To fix the quarter screen issue for CIC3PTW in Windows 11 I had to open Infogrames Interactive>Civilization III>CIV3PTW>ptw file and add the following:
Video Mode=1024
keepres=1
PlayIntro=0

I had to change my screen resolution to 1024 x 768 and the game opened full screen.

My Civ3 Complete (CD-ROM version) runs perfectly on a Windows 11 laptop. I just set the Civ3Conquests.exe file in compatibility mode for Windows 8 and it went smoothly.

help!
Fresh install civ3 on new win11 computer and i have no sound for civ3. I don’t mean diplo bug, i mean no sound at all! Internet fine, other civ games fine but not conquests. Frustrating, i miss the music.

Any ideals for win 11?

I have just finished upgrading to Windows 11 and my Civ III (not steam version) has gone nuts. Could not open it, all I got was a black screen. After fiddling with the settings, having read this thread, I managed to run it, but it's only in a window a quarter of the size of the screen. And maximizing it freezes the game.

I have this in the INI file
Playintro=0
Video Mode=1024
keepRes=1

switched off the "640x480" on the compatibility settings and did the DPI part. Any setup other than this, the game either doesn't load or it maximizes to a gigantic size and I can only see a bit of window... any other ideas on getting a full window?

I just got a new pc with Win 11, too - and it seems I was very lucky concerning Civ 3, as I have no problems with the graphics and sounds when playing Civ 3. Even the thinner letters when starting the GOG version of Civ 3 Complete by the launcher (fixing the magenta letters in some of the C3C screens) now are looking much better.

jlvfr, may be it is a problem with your graphics card and you can adjust the settings with the software of your graphics card? I am playing Civ 3 Complete with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 on 3840 x 2160 solution and a 4K TV used as monitor.

Lately, in CIV III, when I select a unit, BEFORE I can drag it to its destination with the mouse, it'll start moving already, which is super annoying.

Seems to be a WIndows 11 related problem, or... expansion pack I'm using ?
Anybody ? I tried pretty much anything.
