We are pleased to announce that the Game of the Month feature for Civilization III officially starts today (Nov 1, 2001)! The rules for the Civ3 GOTM are the same as Civ2 GOTM. If you are not familiar with the GOTM concept, you should read the <a href="http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3gotm.shtml">introduction page</a> and the <a href="http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3gotm_results.shtml">rules page</a> first in the new Civ III GOTM section.

The saved game for this GOTM is created by Cornmaster because both Matrix and I don't have Civ3 yet. We decided to use a small map for this game because we want people who get Civ3 in the middle of November to be able to play and finish the game.

<img border="0" src="http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3images/gotm/civ3gotm1b.jpg" align="right">Here are the Game Parameters:

- Civilization: Persians
- Leader: Xerxes
- Difficulty Level: Regent (Prince)
- Map Size: Small
- Number of Civs: 5
- Weather: Temperate
- Earth: 4 billion years
- Barbarians: Restless

Download Links:

- <a href="http://www.civfanatics.com/gotm_games/civ3/Civ3_GOTM1.zip">ZIP format (21 KB)</a>
- <a href="http://www.civfanatics.com/gotm_games/civ3/Civ3_GOTM1.SAV">SAV format (714 KB)</a>

Submissions:

- Saved games are due December 2nd, 2001.
- Be sure to save at 0 AD, 1000 AD, and at the end of your game.

Go ahead and start the game if you already have Civ3! Be sure to discuss your progress with your fellow GOTMers in the GOTM forum. Discussion is an important and very fun part of GOTM.

Happy civing and good luck!

My wife is getting me the game tommorow!

When I get out of work tomorrow night I can play till Sunday afternoon!:)

Do I dare play the GOTM as my very first Civ III game?

If I do and get killed right away there's always the Civ II GOTM, isn't there? But what if I get killed there too? Oh no!

What a dilemma dosing! I guess you could just don't play any of them.

You guys are great. Specially in the civ you chose. Go Persians. :goodjob:

Thaks TF, Matrix (I feel your pain, I have to get the game yet) and
Cornmaster.

There is a strong chance that I won't be getting Civ III until 25th DEC, so is then any chance that Gotm 1 & 2 could have late submissions.

I also think you should allow late entries for the first month or two , especially the first. People will be getting their games all through the month and the ones who get them later will have less time to practice or get used to the game. I'll be getting mine on the 18th of this month so I won't have to terribly much time to play with school, and some of my family visiting. But, whatever.:crazyeyes Oh, and thanks for everything TF and CornMaster :goodjob:

You can always play a normal non-GOTM game if you loose early. :king:

Will you tell us the land/water percentage, the land mass type (pangea/continent/archipelago), and climate (arid/normal/wet)?
For what CornMaster remembers it's 80% water, archipelago and normal climate. But don't hook me (or him) on it.

I would also appreciate a late entry very much... I probably will get civ3 at about the 15th... might be a problem 'cause I'm very busy at the moment, and I'm not there from 26th to 30th Nov:cry:

i'd love to join, but i can't even beat cheiftan yet!! :(

I can appreciate that ;) Only on my third game. Stopped #1 after I lost a settle and worker due to not protected. Problems with tactics game #2. Mayble next month.

Like the rest of the CIV population, I'm just starting to play CIV III, and I keep finding myself either in a hopeless situation around 1500AD or soon to be dead in the 100BC range. I'm trying different strategies each time. Should I submit a game when I'm finally happier with the results or submit the first game (I copied the files to floppy). I seems to play faster than CIV II (start to 1AD in about 2-3 hours), so I feel that the learning process is worth it either way.

By the way, isn't it frustrating to find iron and then have it expire after only 2 immortals get built!!!

How could I have been the entire Civ series and not know this web site exsisted!!

Anyway, this is my first GOTM, would have played all of the Civ II games, had I known this was here. I have to say that the Immortals (I have anyway) are total wusses. I haven't exaused my iron supply, but they keep getting the rear ends handed to them. Maybe it is just karma for my feelings on the yankees.

I am glad to finally be aboard here.

Well, good luck, all. I might get a copy Civ3 from a friend for the time being, until I'm able to buy it. (Believe me, I will. ;)) But denyd, what you play the first time is your GOTM. You may not restart. That also makes a kind of a thrill. And there are probably a lot of people who didn't do well this first time.

I'll reload the first try from floppy and make my new goal to just survive until the end of the game. At least I had managed to build enough of an army to survive for a while. I'll see if I can get to a couple of other islands to prolong my existence. I'll try getting a couple of other AI players on my side maybe we can contain the Aztecs and I'll be able to outlast them until 2020. This might be the first time I ever finish a game without either reaching AC or killing everyone else (or getting killed).
:viking:

I am probably asking this question too late for myself since I plan on starting as soon as I get home from work, but is it kosher to read the GOTM board before playing the game? This is the only thread I have since read. I would surmise that a slight advantage could be gained by reading about the GOTM before starting it. Thoughts? Opinions? Rules (Prefered)?

You may read everything except the so-called spoiler thread. The most important thing is just that you don't have any fore-knowledge (especially the map, which is always easily identifiable).
