Civ4 - Boot camp or OS X?

Civ4 for PC should be had pretty cheap now, you might even pick up Civ4 and Warlords for not much more than Mac-Civ on its own.

Add a Windows XP license to that in order to compare like with like, unless you have one lying around doing nothing.

Not if Civ is the only game I have .... which it is. I'm not a gamer.

So you're saying that no one has a clue about Warlords for the Mac? That doesn't seem right... ;)

Yes, and now its all quiet on the Western front.....Uhh, by the way, for the Mac version, please include the Dutch.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to ask a similar question. I am a longtime Windows user who's probably about to pull the plug and finally buy a Macbook Pro this week. I'm likely to get the 2.16 ghz version with 1 GB of RAM, but only 128 MB of video RAM. Am I likely to be able to run the PC version of Civ4 acceptably through Boot Camp this way, or will I need to go get the Mac version?

(The 128 MB of RAM worries me a little, I guess.)

That's the setup that I run, and the game does well, but I don't run the music. Towards the end of a with a pile of Civs and a huge map it slows a bit.

The best part of the Mac is that you don't have to deal with all of the crap of a PC ;)

I came from an HPUX background and can't handle Windows as an OS.

I have a 24" iMac with 2GB of RAM and a 7600GT 256MB GPU. I will not run Civ 4 on the Mac because the Windows version is much much faster. It's not even close. Not only is the PC version superior in game speed but the graphics are much better looking as well (DirectX as opposed to OpenGL I suppose).

In my experience, Aspyr rushes out extremely poor ports in order to make a quick buck. The proceed to patch to fix major bugs but in the end stop development because they have already got you to buy the game. Things are looking up with new projects such as Cider starting to produce results.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I cannot find one of the two CDs I need to install the game, so I may end up having to get the Mac version of the game anyway. Argh!!
