Civ4 Interview @ Strategy Informer

In Civ IV, you will be able to ask Civs to go to war even when you are not at war yourself - you can also broker peace. Other Civs might ask you to switch to their religion or change your government choices.

this is freaking awesome!

i dont like the fortification things, each turn is a long time normally many years, its silly to think a infantry will be any better fortifed after 50 years compared to 25 years. Also the whole getting rid of negative aspects and just making not so positive is stink as well. I mean no pollution, corruption or rioting. Its a part of the game and real life. Its like school who dont say failed just achived less.

Well, the Japanese spent at least a decade prior to WWII fortifying their positions in the Pacific.. time can be well spent to make a place virtually impregnable.

Then again, I'm hoping that it's only 1 turn for fortification bonus, to take care of thetyper's use of reserves automatically getting the defense bonus... hopefully it won't be a gradual increase in fortification over many many turns... that wouldn't be very cool.

Well, its looking like I will need an upgrade of RAM (which I was planning anyways!) and a better video card. I have an Intel Celeron 2.4GHz CPU-so on that note I am WAY AHEAD, and I have so much hard drive space that I am barely using 10% of my total (in spite of having around 2 dozen games!)
My only disappointment from the interview is that they STILL refuse to reveal any genuinely new info on diplomacy-which makes me afraid that it will remain a truly underwhelming part of the game.
The other thing is that, though I am glad instant REVOLT is gone, I would like to see a sort of 3 tiered system for city discontent-First tier much as they have described; second tier the same, but with increasing risk of damage to unit garrison and/or improvements; third tier the same as 1st and 2nd, but also with increased chance of seccession.
I think that would be FANTASTIC :)!

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

Or maybe diplomacy has been so reworked that any news on it is being held back until just before the game is released... we're already salivating over the tidbits they've given us.. If you were them, wouldn't you want to string the customer along so they remain interested in cIV?

I'm betting the new diplomacy model will rock!

If the diplomacy system were that different, they'd be making us salivate by releasing information bit by little bit. I think from what they're telling us that it will be improved, but it won't be that different from Civ III. Which is a pity, because if diplomacy were overhauled, it would really add to the game.
