Civ4 PitBoss Available

It is in my version. Try reinstalling the game maybe?

What operative system are you using? maybe vista is putting the pitboss program in another folder or something? i think you would be better off searching your machine for pitboss though as it would be faster than asking here.

I have Vista and the Pitboss program is in the correct directory as described in previous posts.

Try doing a file search for "Civ4*.exe" (don't use the quotes) across your entire hard drive.

the missing dll error is because you are not running PitBoss out the same directory where Civilization4.exe is located. Move PitBoss.exe there and it will work.

i tried doing that, but still same message!!:(

The search only turned up the 3.13 patch from Direct2Drive. Also, can't someone just tell me where to unzip the file to? XD

If you've gotten the file from elsewhere, I'd suggest putting it where Bolkonski recommended you look for it in the first place:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization4\Beyond the Sword\

I have installed vanilla Civ4 including the latest patch (1.74) on a virtual machine, in order to create a pitboss game on it. I have downloaded the pitboss version from the Firaxis website, and put it in the same directory as my Civ4.exe is.

I start pitboss. I get the screen which Mod I want to use (None). After that I get the SMTP screen, I just leave it blank. In the network I select DirectIP. On the select Init Type I get a popup box:

Title: Patch available
Text: TXT_KEY_PITBOSS_PATCH_AVAILABLE_DESC

I can choose Yes and No, so I choose Yes (If I choose No, I'll get the Civ4 message that the versions don't match). So it starts downloading.

After the download I get another box:

Title: Download complete
Text: Press ok to shutdown and install the patch

So I press ok, but nothing happens. After I manually close pitboss and start it over again, the exact same thing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure what you are doing wrong but I do recall that the out-of-box vanilla pitboss was bugged.

Try to install the patch outside of pitboss. If you still have problems there is a player-developed vanilla pitboss.exe that works.

Thanks for your swift reply!

Can you tell me where I can either download that patch, because other than it being downloaded by pitboss itself, I haven't got a clue where to find it.

I've found an unofficial pitboss patch, but it does seem to add a lot of stuff I don't want. Not sure if this is the player-developed vanilla pitboss.exe you're talking about... Where can I find that?

Does anyone know if there is a way to run multiple instances of the BtS Pitboss Server on one computer? I tried the method of adding an ALTROOT empty directory to the target line in a shortcut to the server, but no files are createdin the empty directory the altroot is pointing to.

Thanks everyone!

I can't believe I missed the slash mark before the ALTROOT. My apologies for the clutter! :D

On a different, note, has anyone seen a problem with Pitboss crashing when trying to launch the SS? I was playing a pitboss game with one other player and 8 AI, and as soon as i clicked the Launch button the pitboss server would crash. The only way I was able to resolve this was to host the game directly, and have my friend connect to me. That fixed it and we were able to launch.

Is it just me, or does Pitboss still sem to be a bit on the buggy side?

Thanks in advance!

What does this error mean?

NetSign([96,13]3,c OnAddSign from 3

I'm getting them like crazy when certain players log in.

Is there any place to find "pick-up" games using PitBoss. I've noticed no new PitBoss games have been started here. I'd love to take a seat in a game and then start once the table fills.

No people starting games is just due to a lack of hosts in the community. Get more people to play pitboss and especially games with computers that are online 24/7.
