I had similar problems, also have XP, IIRC i solved the problem by (to my memory, was some way back):
- Running a registry cleaner software to clean any string not removed by CAII conventional uninstall, and other malfunctioning paths in registry (i use AML registry cleaner, but there are a lot to choose from online, be carefull with what you erase, keep the cleaning to a minimum, only what you need);
- Creating a new XP user account and cut-copying all the necessary docs to the new account (many times you´re XP account gets corrupt and you don´t even know it);
- Updating XP with SP3 not just SP2;
- Updating MFramework 1.1 to 3.5;
- Installing latest security updates in XP updates (excluding MS Malicious Removal Soft and other unecessary crap, only the KB981831...ish files);
- Getting all java and flash programs up to date, probably not necessary, but can´t harm either, since if you can install these problems without problem, it´s likely you will be able to install CAII also...
then again, i´m no expert, maybe someone can go straight to the issue....
