Civilization 4 The complete edition help

I bought Civilization 4 the completer edition and it came with one disk with 4 games on it. It only lets me play Colonization none of the others. It didnt make any shortcuts on the desktop. I have a PC computer with Windows vista. How do I play the other games???

You can access all of the games through the Vista Games Manager. Click the Start button. On the right side should be an entry for "Games"; click that. If there is no "Games" entry, you will have to configure the Start Menu to display it. Another way is to use the Search Box. Click the Start button and type "games" in the search box at the bottom and press Enter. This should bring up the Games Manager.

All of this assumes that you are using the default Vista Start Menu, not the Classic Start Menu.

If you still have problems, try posting in the CIV IV - Technical Support forum. You're more likely to get help with this type of problem there.

I'm new to Civ IV but used to be a Civ III addict


I have just loaded the Civ 4 complete from the DVD

When I play Civ IV I get a straight line, top to bottom, on the map. It won't allow me to move or see passed this line. Based on my familiarity w/ Civ III I can't believe that the map is not contiguous. This would totally change strategies.

I've downloaded the Civ4 Patch 1.61 in hopes that there would be a fix for the map issue but I am unable to install this patch. The error message is "the setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed"

Vanilla is fully patched when it comes with Complete.

I had and enjoyed Civ4, Warlords, & BTS for a couple year. I've had Win7 for while and recently bought the Complete Edition. Again loads of fun, I had the same problem many others did with not being able to find the Civ, Warlords and BTS .exes for a while but eventually found em on my own.
The problem came when I tried to DL and install mods from here. I'm playing BTS from the CE and I double checked the Build, its 3.17. I know that a patch to 3.19 is now available, and required by many of the best mods available here. The problem is Patch 3.19 and all mods fail to find the Civ 4 installation and crash during install. I tried this both on my Desktop where I had installed C4CE to an external drive and on my laptop where it is istalled to the default installaion location.
Any ideas?

This may, or may not, work...
You might be able to download and manually install the 3.17 patch. In spite of it saying that it is already 3.17, there is at least one version of the Complete package that has something wrong with the keys in the registry that a re-patch has been said to fix (since the registry keys are wrong, it apparently lets you apply the 3.17 patch).
If that does work, then after that you should be able apply the 3.19 patch. By the way, don't rely on the in-game update: It is a piece of junk that fails and then lies about it. Manually download patches and apply them outside the game.

Oh, and you probably don't need to answer questions that are 2 years old...

Trying that now. lol It'll take me a couple of hours to get the patch, So I'll edit this post after I get it. I always DL patches out of game, so thats never an issue for me. And *chuckle* sorry, didn't notice the date of the previous post.

Did have one other question. I haven't checked the version for the Civ4, Warlords, or Colonization installs from Complete, do I need to patch them as well?

*Edit 3.17 installed fine, but 3.19 still crashed right after it started. Final Frontier Plus 1.7, and the other Mods I wanted installed fine this time, but crashed while trying to load... Only other thing I can think is maybe some part of the 3.19 file got corrupted in DL. With my connection speeds that is possible. I'll have to wait till next month to try and re-DL it. If any of you fine folk can think of any other options I would be really appreciative.

And thanks Bernbaum, so if I decide I want to patch up Colonization, I'll grab that patch from here as well.

In the meantime, I may try to find some mods that work with 3.17

When you install BTS patch 3.19, it will check the status of the basic CIV game (called vanilla around here) and Warlords. If they are not the latest versions, it will also patch them to the latest versions. Colonization is a separate game that shares ideas with CIV but is not an expansion. There is a forum here on CFF for Colonization. If that game interests you, that forum is the best place for questions about it.
