Civilization 5 Steamworks questions/concerns for inclusion in the FAQ

At the moment i'm just searching for general questions, if there are any others around or not.
If there are only these few, then it's not worth going deeper into that (besides that only Valve or 2K can answer some of them).
If we digg deeper, then you have some good points.

Steamcloud has not been asked, right -> to the list.

That pretty much confirms to me that there are no regional restrictions on any of the more expensive regional prices.

If you are correct then why does 2K Greg refuse to answer (or even acknowledge) the question? As he is a paid corporate PR rep I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he isn't just personally acting like a dick.

Is Greg really prohibited from answering questions about regional restrictions? If so, then why? If as you suspect there are no such restrictions then why would that good news be kept a secret? I for one was going to purchase this game until Greg ignored my question. He could have at least posted to us something like "I'm not allowed to discuss about restrictions" or even a simple "I can't answer that" or "I don't know".

If discussing regional restrictions isn't allowed, then why did the Steam rep do so? Granted it took sending Steam three questions before finally receiving an almost-complete answer, but is the topic off-limits or not?

Greg? Helloooooooo...

This was the Steam support guys first reply

"As long as you have internet access you will be able to download the game once it has been released in the region you purchased it from. "

It means exactly the same as the last reply he gave though the language is a little clumsy. Your claim that they are hiding something (which is what you implied) because you say it took 3 replies to understand the meaning is wrong.

Seriously, this is a non-issue that you guys have been fretting over. This was always how it was going to be.

If you are correct then why does 2K Greg refuse to answer (or even acknowledge) the question?
I don't know and I'm not in the business of apologising for corporate behaviour. I just think you've been daft all this time. You're asking about things that have never happened before without due cause to think they might. Why not ask if this time Civ5 will require fresh goats blood to be activated?

Regional restrictions on software have "never happened before"?!?

:lmao:

You sir, are a very funny man.

Regional restrictions on using developed world versions of software on Steam have never happened before. I'm surprised I had to make this clear to you given I've repeated it plenty often.

Bold by me.

Ah, where to begin?

Steam regional restrictions and pricing

Your unsupported opinions and amateur guesses continue to be totally incorrect. Civ5 on Steam has a confirmed regional restriction. Check the release date, the date the game can be played is restricted by region. I am asking if there are any additional regional restrictions as well that 2K isn't telling us about.

"Developed world"? Where did my question mention anything about the "developed world"? Please read my question again before wasting additional time with more of your pointless comments.

I have been to Russia. I may someday wish to play Civ5 while in Russia. Many Civfanatics members live in Russia. Before you continue to offend you might consider an apology for not including Russia among your criteria of the "developed world".

Thormodr is traveling to Thailand. He is also interested in the Steam regional restrictions. He also said nothing about the "developed world".

As a final note I don't care if you like the questions or not. My question is not addressed to you. I have asked politely but you don't listen so here is the more direct version - You are not an official source so please stop repeatedly answering my official question and clogging this official thread with your useless speculations about a topic you have zero official knowledge of. You do not know what regional restrictions will or will not be on Civ5 so stop pretending you do. I will show 2K Greg's statement from the other official FAQ thread to you again:

...please refrain from trying to answer other people's questions or start discussions about things other people have posted.

Repost of my July 26 question from the first page of this thread:

Q. Are there any regional restrictions, or can I purchase Civ5 from anywhere in the world and still be allowed to play online/get patches from Steam/add mods/etc. from anywhere in the world?

This question should be relevant not only to those of us who travel, but to the Civ players in places like Australia and New Zealand as well. Link Link

Repost of my July 26 question from the first page of this thread:

You're not even reading my posts, are you? You can bold all you like but that doesn't change the meaning of what I said. When I say the word using, I don't mean the word buying. You're misrepresenting my post when you try to claim thats what I mean.

I brought in the developed world because I wished to be accurate, something you should aspire to. Restrictions have been in place in developing countries for reasons I think acceptable. Russia is also not a member of the developed world. This wikipedia article shows several different criteria by which these things are reckoned and Russia doesn't fall into top category of any of them. If you wish to write an essay contesting this be my guest.

You're in the wrong, you're going to have no problems with regards to this from Steam but are too stubborn and arrogant to let it go. As evidence for this claim of mine I submit this link that shows you are biased as you are not even going to buy Civ5 anyway and so are just noisily asking silly questions for reasons other than genuine interest.

Russia is also not a member of the developed world.

Any Russians care to enlighten this poor, sheltered soul?

I am the person who asked the question. You are the person who continues to inject your unwelcome personal opinion based on speculation from prior game releases onto the official Civ5 FAQ thread in direct conflict with the wishes of the 2K staff who asked you not to.

You do not know what regional restrictions will or will not be on Civ5 so stop pretending you do.

Really? Did you forget Guardian PL's valiant struggle with the Steam support staff just from last page? (clicky!)

Sounds good regarding Euro and presumably NA customers. Its not the official you wanted but its official enough I think. Not that you are sincere because you've already decided to not buy the game.

In reference to your edit, the reason I will not be sending any of my money to 2K is because they refuse to answer my "silly" question. My "silly" question has been asked by many other people too, including moderators from this forum.

Part A: I want purchase the game from the retailer that gives the best price.

Part A: Will Steam restrict a game purchased anywhere in the world from being activated from anywhere in the world?

I do not want to purchase Civ5 and find out I violated an unknown regional restriction and can't active the game I paid for.

Part B: I want to be able to play the game I paid for from anywhere (Note: anywhere) in the world including the countries that are not "developed". ;)

Part B: Once any game is activated will Steam restrict that game from logging on from anywhere in the world to play online/get patches from Steam/add mods/etc.?

As you consider my question to be "silly" then you do not need to add any more of your useless answers. :D

No, read it again. That did not answer the question. Link Link

Its not the official you wanted...

OMG!

We have a comprehension breakthrough! I'm so proud of you! You finally figured out that your useless personal opinion is not an official answer and that it isn't wanted! Good for you! Now go learn something about Russia. :)

Heres a constructive suggestion for you then, why not address your question to Steam Support?

Zing, oh so condescending.

Now you've sunk to not just ignoring the paragraphs of my post you can't answer, but you're chopping out parts of sentences! Anyway, it is an official answer since its from a Steam employee and it answers your question about as fully as is possible at this time. As I've said previously, your question cannot be answered as the deals about distribution in many countries have yet to be completed or even release dates announced. I've suggested you ask a question it is possible to answer before and, going by how Guardian PL got a response to a better posed question, I hope you can see the sense in doing that.

Zing, oh so condescending.

Now that you have figured out your personal speculation about this "silly" question is not requested or welcomed please stop cluttering up the official FAQ thread with your unsupported ramblings.

Yes, I am ignoring you. It's because you don't have the answer to my question.

In case you still refuse get the point:

You do not know what regional restrictions will or will not be on Civ5 so stop pretending you do.

Repost of my July 26 question from the first page of this thread (seeking an official answer only please):

I do wish Senethro would stop polluting this thread with speculation that isn't helpful in any way shape or form. Sahkuhnder, myself and others are very interested in learning whether there are regional lockouts for ciV on Steam or not. Any answers given by forum members other than 2K Games representatives are not official, not really useful at all and really just spam.

2K Greg did promise to look into it for me on another thread but that was over two weeks ago. The clock is ticking and I need an answer to ascertain whether I should buy the game or not.

BTW, Russia is a developed country.

crap, I'm out of popcorn. Anyone got any to spare?

Fresh out.. However, it is my turn to bake cookies, should be done in a bit. I can make extra, will that work? :mischief:

I went and cancelled my boxed CE order and went for the Steam special edition instead. £10 less, plus babylon and preload so I dont have to wait for delivery.

I werent too keen on the miniatures either, just the nice collectors box and artbook, but £50 for that was far too much, I'll wait for it to reduce in price a lot like CEs usually do and buy it then as a collectable.

So if I buy the game from D2D to get their bonus preorder of Civ III complete and a DLC pack at some point in the future once I install the game on Steam, is there any difference at all than if I Pre-Ordered the game directly from Steam?

I guess you don't get the cradle map pack, but those can be gotten separately so... no.
