I was going to buy Civ V on steam but its $80us - is there any reason that this is far more expensive then anywhere else  ? I would have thought it would the cheapest

Hi, welcome to CFC and the Mac space :wavey:

Current UK price on Steam is UKP 29.99. At normal exchange rates that's about USD 45. There's no way that translates to USD 80, is there? Are you looking at the deluxe version with all the DLC?

I see it at UKP 39.99, which shouldn't be $90. But in any case, the only playable extra in the deluxe version is Babylon, and you can buy that as separate DLC for less than the deluxe premium.

I have noticed on Amazon UK that the PC disc version is much cheaper than the Mac disc version. As this is a Steamplay game where you buy one version and you can play it on PC and Mac, I don't see any reason why you can't buy a PC version on disc at the cheapest price then use that code in steam to register the game and install the Mac version via steam. You won't be able to install from the disc, but if it save enough money does it matter? With the PC version it works out cheaper to buy the standard version and add the Babylon civ via steam DLC, unless you specifically want the making of video or soundtrack of course.

Might i guess that marginal is probably in Australia or New Zealand?

We already hat this discussion at the release of the PC version. In AU/NZ there are some ridicilous high taxes on some imports, which result in a much higher price than everywhere else. But other people have reported, that it's no problem to import a disc version from somewhere else.

This reason not to do this is that then Aspyr doesn't see a dime. It's a tough call, whether you want to make sure the developer of the Mac port gets compensated or if you want to take advantage of the broken system in hopes somebody will get the hint to fix it.

It is or was 30$ on steam, and its always been 50$, never seen it higher unless its the deluxe edition.
