Civilization Request Thread

Just a brief idea for fun (and possibly a Civ). Decided to get feedback.

Hanseatic League
Leader - Jakob Pleskow
:c5capital: Capital - Lübeck

UA Hansetag - Declarations of Friendship give +1 :trade: trade route. When sending a :trade: trade route out the receiver gets -2 :c5gold: gold from the route and you gain :c5gold: +1 Gold. Merchant Specialists produce +2 :c5goldenage: Golden Age Points. (Can't Build Settlers or Annex Cities)

UB Kontor (Bank) - Free in puppeted cities. +15% :c5production: Production, +15% :c5gold: Gold. All trade routes sent to and from this city produce an additional +2 :c5gold: gold. has a Merchant Specialists

UU Cog (Great Admiral) - As well as being generated, it can be purchased with gold. This unique Great Admiral can fight, form a trade route and also puppet city states.

That looks.... Weird. While I agree the hanse shpu!d be golden age related, they also should get extra bonuses from it. And if the trade route owner gets less gold, why would he send trade routes to you?

Sending a trade route. So basically you send a trade route to other civs and they gain less from it, and you gain more. This is based on the merchants of the Cologne Hansa convinced Henry II, King of England, to free them from all tolls in London

Singapore
Leader: Lee Kuan Yew

UA: Economic miracle: All buildings require no :c5gold: Gold maintenance. Receive two free Great Merchants when you discover Economics. Can't build Settlers.
UU: Bionix - replacing the Mechanized Infantry. Combat: 98. Movement: 3. Cost: 375 P/750 F.
UB: Shophouse - replacing the Stock Exchange. +3 :c5gold:, +25% :c5gold:. 15% of :c5food: Food is carried over after a new :c5citizen: Citizen is born (effect stacks with Aqueduct and Medical Lab).

They can't build settlers.

Looks like DJSHenniger's Nepal brought to it's logical conclusion... what's up with that Bionix though?

I see nothing wrong with it. Slightly higher combat strength.

Edit: Since someone made a Singapore idea, we need to have the other Four Asian Tigers.

Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan.

Why is a member of Daft Punk driving a Counter-mine vehicle?

Spoiler :

Either way, a Modern Infantry UU is utterly useless. If you're not ahead by the time they come around, slightly higher combat strength isn't going to change that.

South Korea
Leader: Park Chung-hee

UA: Hallyu (or Korean Wave): Convert 35% of :c5culture: Culture and :tourism: Tourism into :c5gold: Gold per turn.
UU: Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) - replacing the Guided Missile. Ranged Combat: 60. Range: 12. Movement: 2. Cost: 150 P.
UB: Seowon - replacing the Univercity. +40% :c5science: Science, +2 :c5science: Science from Jungle tiles worked by this City. Allows Archaeologists to be built in this city. City must have a Library.

The UA seems fairly boring and both the UU and UB don't really offer much at all in terms of interesting gameplay. The UB is just an extra 7% science - woop, and the UU is just a slight upgrade, which is crazy underpowered given how late it comes. None of the uniques sync up in any way.

Urdnot Scott seems fairly boring :yuck:

Some criticisms, since you asked. Careful what you wish for...

The UA seems to be like Venice, but not radically different enough to be super interesting, like +1 gold from trade routes is essentially negligible past the very early game and -2 for your trade partner makes almost no difference in the long run, again. The golden age thing seems interesting but not super related to the rest of the civ, and it might be a bit annoying making sure you've got enough merchant specialists given you can't annex cities but thats remedied somewhat by the Kontor and a minor nitpick and I've no trouble with it overall. Its also objectively worse than Venice since Venice gets an additional like 10 trade routes max, whereas I can't think of a game where I've ever had more than 3 DoFs active at once - not to mention the fact that you'd potentially lose out on a lot of gold just because your DoF expired, that's no fun.

The Kontor is cool enough but I'm not sure its strong enough to make up for the rather weak UA. That said, Venices Great Galleass is absolute turd so there's precedent at least

The Cog is weird, since the 'Can puppet city states' seems to be just thrown in there, which makes it absurdly overpowered, especially because it can be purchased. That alone makes up for the weakness of the rest of the design, but in a bad way. I mean gold is nothing, you could conceivably puppet every single city state in the game by like the renaissance if you send out enough trade routes. Cog is also a very odd choice for a Great Admiral given how normal they are - it'd be like making a unique Viking Great Admiral called a Longship or a unique British Great General called a Longbowman.

Urdnot Scott seems fairly boring :yuck:

This is why I haven't made any splits in ages. This thread has really gone downhill.

Yeah. I also haven't posted any criticism in ages, because I realised I had better things to do. I lost my compulsion to post, maybe because responding takes a lot of my time.

You did release Songhai, I did release Assyria... Lol.

I pretty much started using this thread purely for reviews. I suppose that isn't happening anymore, is it? Oh well...
