I don't quite see the relevance of arguing about whether or not the biggest eyes in animation originates from Japan.

The point is that they're big, unrealistic and cartoony.

Yes, similar to the rest of the art style, but not fitting the actual game.

Cartoony is not connoted to negativity from my side either, it's simply a matter of whether or not it makes sense with this art style in a Civ game (I contend it doesn't).
