[LP] Civilization VI: Leader Pass - Predict the leader abilities

The Steam page text indicates he will be more warlike. I'm not sure how that couches into a Great Negotiators pack, unless he can get other civs to cede cities more readily in peace deals.
Perhaps his older persona(technically Vanilla Saladin) will be the negotiator?
 
The thing about Theodora is that she will be saddled with the Byzantine UA that adds combat strength from converted Holy Cities. It makes me think that whatever she can build better, it's going to synchronize with religious/domination victories.
 
Having done a bit of a shallow dive into her history it does seem that the best tie in for a great negotiator for Mbande/Ana Nzinga would be how she used religion as a diplomatic tool. Maybe additional diplo favor for every other civ following your state religion? Or diplo favor from relics to better tie into Nkisi? Faster alliance growth with same-religion civs? Curious to see where they go but some sort of bonus from civs following the same religion is my bet?
She could get an ability similar to Fez's that gives her diplo favor for converting a city to her religion.
 
True... Maybe adjacent units getting reduced strength if the Saladin has grievances against that civ?
It would be a rare situation to be at war and have no grievances, so in practice that would just result in a penalty akin the one granted by the Toa unique unit, but granted as an ability to every single Arabia unit, which doesn't seem right.

Besides, grievances are from GS, so they can't be the focus of the design.
 
Alexander already has faster grievances decay, so that might be too close.
A pity. Reduced grievances fitted both war and diplomacy themes, but yes, maybe too standard. Perhaps special diplomacy actions while at war with a Civ? That would be different, for sure, altough I’m not sure how it could be implemented. Does it mix with other Arabia traits (it’s been a while since I last played)

It would basically be defensive only. As you wouldn't accumulate grievances if you were attacked... But you're right it could just be a flat penalty in defensive wars for the same effect.

Just trying to think of mechanics along those lines...

Which text are you referring to? Sure I read it but have forgotten it already. I would be amazed if he doesn't have a warlike persona - and would also let him tie in to the UU... But if they also want him to be a great negotiator of some kind that narrows the options... More peace acceptance was mooted that would be an offensive diplomatic ability... But there aren't many?

My problem with this is that passive abilities feel really boring. The player has no control over them, and the proc of the ability never really hits you - it's just there. Think of Gandhi, who to me is the most boring leader in the game because the player has no agency over either aspect of his ability.

I feel like it would have something to do with religious/Holy wars, considering Arabia is the only civ in the game that will get a guaranteed Great Prophet.

Very true, and I wasn't saying this was an ability I would want just one which would seem to fit the bill for what Firaxis are trying to create - militaristic/diplomatic.
 
Suleiman - The Janissary will be moved to the Ottoman UU and the Corsair will become regular Suleiman's UU. If not that then I can new Suleiman getting the Sipahi since the Corsair doesn't really work with the Ottoman's civ abilities. Maybe he'll keep the Corsair and lean into more pillaging and raiding type stuff.
In a way it makes sense to make the corsair leader ability unit for Suleiman, as the Barbary coast came just before Suleimans reign under Ottoman rule and during his reign the region was consolidated.

Looks like all the leaders for a base game civ only requires the base game.

Yes, the first pack doesn't require anything beyond vanilla, so all mechanics will have vanilla features.

No word on a livestream yet. I've asked.
