Civilization VII Update 1.2.2 - June 23, 2025

Update completely broke Civ VII for me, just loads to a black screen and locks up. I've restarted Steam a couple of times, does not fix, rebooted laptop, still doesn't work. There is no way in hell I'm uninstalling and then reinstalling this POS again when I just re-dowloaded it to try the update. Good gawd I wish I could get a refund, Civ VII goes in the trash heap for me for good.
I got a black screen on first load. I had to kill it in task manager but after that it's been fine.

edit--interestingly, when I was looking at it in there there were two instances of the game running.

This happened to one guy last update. He used Vulcan, but using DX12 solved it for him.

Founder Beliefs that provided Yield for each foreign Settlement following your Religion now grant some Yield for domestic Settlements following your Religion.

Any information on this.. ie does the +2 Science from Tropical tiles in foreign settlements that follow this religion now have an additional +2 Science on your Tropical settlements that follow the religion (or something like that)

or is it just reflecting that there are some founders beliefs that benefit from foreign and some that benefit from your own settlements?

I only noticed a few of the beliefs did this. They were typically +2 (yield) for every foreign city and +1 (yield) for every domestic city

Anyone getting weird denouncements about troops on their borders? Machiavelli keeps complaining, but I'm not sure what troops he's talking about. They are clearly in my territory.

These feel very performance-related? But that's just complete guesswork based on the symptoms and not seeing many reports of the same.

Anyone else been seeing these?
I've seen a few similar reports. And the game ran *just fine* before - I have more than 400 hours on Steam. The computer runs every other game I throw at it. The performance seems to have improved a little, but I'm still running into reload issues every 10 turns or so. And just now this appeared - some kind of dev debug panel?!

I guess my main complaint is not only did this game cost so much more than the previous ones, but it's the first time in 30 years of playing Civ games I've had stuff like this happen.

Yeah that's more than fair. I haven't seen anything on my machine, which is high-spec but not ludicrously so, and three years old at this point. I do have the game installed on an SSD - I wonder if that's a significant factor.

I'm on SSD, on a three-year-old computer too! I've reinstalled the whole thing twice. I've just thrown in the towel on my current game in the exploration age, about 50 turns in, because it's dying every second turn. Steam rejected my refund request for the unreleased DLC I already paid for too. Ah well. Too old to learn how to play another 4X game, haha. I'll be back I guess, but for now I guess I'm done with Civ 7. It's sad - I tried the Vox Populi mod for Civ V yesterday and it was so clunky and slow - played about an hour and I was still in the damn stone age. If I wanted that, I'd play Caveman 2 Cosmos on Civ 4! :)

Has anybody tried multi-player after 1.2.2 came out?

My buddies and me have been playing once a week since Feb. and it more or less played quite stable all the time. But with 1.2.2, we tried for 1.5 hours to start a game -- in vain... :-(

We started a fresh game and then got a variety of problems:
  • 5 players were able to join without problem, but the 6th couldn't. No error, but "nothing happened".
  • Or 5 were in the game, and when the 6th managed to join successfully, the 5th (or 3rd...) got kicked out again.
Then, when #5 (or #3) tried to re-join, #4 got kicked out. (Or #2 ... or 6... You get the picture...)
  • And in those rare cases, where all 6 managed to join and press the start button, for 3 out of 6 of us, the game crashed after countdown reached zero...
  • Then we decided to try two groups with 3 players each, disabled all mods to make sure -- no luck either
Multi-Player seems completely broken after this patch.

Game still has the problem of cogs spawning in lakes. My fault I guess for putting a fishing quay there I suppose. I thought about it the second after I put it down, but I figured they fixed this bug.

I guess I would expect ships to spawn on the fishing quay since it's the only permanent water building and it's a requirement to build ships. Where should they spawn?
