Interesting idea, but it'd tend to lend itself to 'old-style' racism from before WW2.

OTOH, 'civil war' could then meaningfully generate the traditional nations, spining off from the family tree.

That's the only problem I can think of, is when people of one race adopt the culture of another. France is Germanic in all but language. :/

The french live more like Romans then the Germanic franks, even the Germans are kinda romanized. Their language is latin based, and their culture has many Roman aspects and their relgion is Christianity.

So I would say that there is no ''Germanic'' civilizations anymore.
