Classic 33: Saves are now available!

The GOTM staff are please to announce that saves are now available for Classic 33: Greece.

There is a pediaicons.txt file included with the Civ / Mac version starting files. This contains nothing new; it is merely designed to help new players or players that may have out-of-date pediaicons.txt files. Use it if you have problems.

The Game announcement page is here.

Got it. I play my turns today and post tomorrow.
 Ooopps, the wrong game (I'am playing defnetly too much) :mischief:

Thanks Ainwood.

Thanks a lot, this should be a lot of fun. You mentioned a corrected pediaicons file... if you have the time, I'd appreciate it. Ever since I DL'd some of these GOTMs I've had wierd issues. Thanks.

Are you talking about [civ3] or [ptw]? All of the [civ3] .zips (Conquest/Open/Predator) have a pediaicons.txt. You shouldn't need one for [ptw].

Okay,....

mac Civ3 version or PTW? :hmm:

Any feedback yet on the pediaicons.txt issue in Gotm32 and this month's Gotm33 save file?

I will be playing this with CivIII v1.29.
I had issues with the pediicons file in the last Classic GOTM.
Is there an updated, 'clean' version available?

-or-

I do have Conquests, which I understand contains PTW. Should I be using that instead? Will I need the latest patch for PTW?

There is an updated version of the pediaicons file in the .zip that contains the .sav file.

That is what I did last month. Just d/l the save into your PTW save folder. Start the game up using the PTW icon and load the save.

Ok, I got the pediaicons.txt file. I autounzipped the file directly into my saves folder so I never saw it. Thanks a lot.

Has anyone had problems with the resource icons? I've tried several times now to play using Civ 1.29f with the 5 old GOTM21-25 patch programs and the new pediaicon.txt file and I still get oysters on the plains and hidden horses.

Yea, I was thrown too. Alan set me straight. You need to look in your Art folder for the resource storage folder. In there are the original resource files that need to replace the current ones being used. Fixes the problem.

I am trying to play this GOTM33 on the PTW version that came with Conquests. As I understood it, I did not need to load anything but the save file (I chose open class). On meeting a certain civ coloured dark blue, I encountered a 'Load Error - File nor found Art/Flics/gotm_shilla.flc' error which resulted in the game closing. Any advice?

I haven't tried to play any previous classic GOTM on this, and therefore have only standard files.

To reiterate what dojoboy has said, here's the relevant statement in the game announcement page small print:

Note that custom resources are NOT used!

If the last GOTM you played in your vanilla or Mac version was before GOTM 32 then you need to revert the resource files to the standard ones. Here is the detailed story provided by Ainwood last month.

This is surprising, as there's no reference to shilla in the PtW start file as far as I can tell. Are you sure you've downloaded the correct start file for PtW, and NOT the one for Civ 1.29/Mac?

You are right, Alan. That is what I did. Too much playing Conquests and forgetting that there are multiple versions that you have to release for classic! Obviously I need to go back and download the PTW version, but does this mean that I have invalidated my game submission?

Hi. This is my second GOTM and I'm getting a crash that's similar to what happened when you met the spanish in gotm32. This is with another add-on civ from the ME. I'm using v1.29. Just letting you know. Thanks

You probably haven't played much of the game. Send me your save to gotm@civfanatics.net, and I'll see if we can allow you to restart. :)
