Can someone point me to a good windows based program for cloning my HD? Free would be my first choice. :)

Be careful when cloning between PCs with different hardwares, then you could get driver issues.

I just want to put my laptop HD onto an external drive. I'm still scanning around for the good "free" one...

Maybe this will work. :) Although it's for faulty drives, it could work for your situation.

http://roadkil.net/program.php?ProgramID=22

This program copys a disk as a raw image from one drive directly to another. This utility is designed for people who have faulty drive and want to transfer the data directly to another drive without doing a file by file copy. This saves the need for operating system re-installs and allows drives with an unknown file system to be copied (including from console game machines, data recorders, mac etc).

Roadkil.net also has some other good software, I've used a bit of them. So there may be something else there.
