No, it certainly doesn't, and I think that for the most part moderators do an excellent job in selecting which threads will be closed. I just feel that in this particular case there was no good reason to close the thread. It was obviously humor.

.... Then shouldn't it have been in the Humour and Jokes section?

Thread gained no popularity, instead that was bombed by spam.

It would be hard to select another option.

Of course moderation doesn't work democratically - that's the whole point. Thing's be chaotic if the mods had to ask every time they wanted to close something that was against the rules. I am quite happy to trust the mods' opinions on whether a thread is worthwhile or not and they have proven worthy of my trust.
I doubt that this thread will last too much longer to be honest, or at least it will be moved to Site Feedback.

You could have put this monkey-God thing in a thread with several other examples of twisted logic and got away with it in Humour and Jokes but to start an OT thread with it and with such a provocative title was only simple flaming. You may not have intended to flame with this, but you've certainly succeeded and the thread was deservedly closed. I don't believe in God and I'm offended by this.

normally i agree with AoA but i think that was a BIT overeacted
(i made bit big because i dont want that a moderator is angry at me)but the maker of the thread made the mistake to make it in ot
and you must know that(here i go again)most people here are religous (me too but not so big)but it was funny i think the mod had to move the thread

I agree entirely. And if anyone out there wants to make a freedom of speech issue out of it, please activate your spell-checkers first. Thank you

Sorry if I offended everyone, maybe I should have put it in the Humor section. But I also am Christian, so dont anyone tell me about how this is offensive. I am truly sorry to anyone it offends, but it was supposed to be funny.

Sorry Pellaken, I didn't know there were actual religious groups who believe this.

well, not so much that god is a monkey... THAT is pretty funny :) but more so that evoulition and creation are the same thing. I belive there was an adam and eve, but that they were simpally the first monkeys that started to evolve into humans

also, I asked this in acient history class, to a good reception:

if humans are evolved monkeys, who to humans have hairy buts? :)

Thats really neat that someone actually managed to teach that. Most people in Canada would have jumped right off that bandwagon. (Hope thats not offensive.) What religion do you follow anyway?
