CO-3: Immortal Emperors

Alright, I did a quick scan of the earlier posts, and looked at the last save.

No matter what happens, the game is essentially over so I’m not sure how fun it will be to complete it now but.. I didn’t realize before how bad a spot the AI’s got in this map.

Ghandi with 3 very terrible cities on your continent just waiting to flip or be taken easily to you. He has a few crappy cities on 1 or 2 tile islands with just no production whatsoever…

His own small continent is mostly ice & tundra. His only real city is his capital, which, as fate would have it.. Is directly facing you waiting for a 1 turn backstab & raze move. I do not think you could ask for a better spot here.

Even Bismark’s wonder capital is coastal waiting to lose it to a surprise attack. His vassal has a small crappy continent too. And the other mainland has 3 powers struggling. With Togu in the territory lead there, and since he does not like to trade, every AI is crippled in that department this game.

Again, I don’t see how it’s possible to lose here, it just can’t happen in this set-up. Hell, your even getting 3x the movement speed when attacking the continents here, it’s just impossible. Those ships are traveling at the speed of light.

The interesting thing is, you could win from here doing just about anything.. War or Peace.. UN.. Etc..

Some other issues, I see some Fank II units. Why did you guys waste some decent cav with such poor promotions? One has Flank II with -1 terrain movement. I can understand if you had 3 promos to assign and really needed that extra 1 movement NOW… But usually you only do Flank to get the sentry.

There were some semi-critical mistakes with the timing of the Globe and other issues. Oh well we all been there and did that once… what does not kill you makes you stronger for the next game at least. I always make sure now I complete it on time (with turns to spare) cause you always get those ******** random events like… Ohh a theatre has been destroyed… You can’t finish Globe now sucker! Ohhh, your city revolted to the enemy without even any first time warning… your Globe theatre can’t be complete sucker!

Maybe it would have been best to just finish off Darius here, that would allow some interesting diplo plays later on, but again it doesn’t really matter much. Everyone is probably going to have a different viewpoint on that issue anyway.

I’ll be looking forward to the next one, but please increase the difficulty a little bit :P

Thanks Obsolete for the analysis :)
I agree with you about flanking promotions, pinch and formation cavs are better usually...
The globe was indeed great, even if we could have time it better...

"I’ll be looking forward to the next one, but please increase the difficulty a little bit :P"

 what do you mean, deity? :dubious:

Cheers

Going to try and play in about 2 hours. Some thoughts:

Victory condition: As has been said nearly all conditions are available top us. Domination would probably get it done in fewer game turns, but SS would take less actual time. I'd prefer trying for domination though; Bismarck, Tokugara and Washington should be pushovers with the tech situation, especially once Gandhi's been destroyed or vassalised.

Techs: Combustion sounds like a good target, then Industrialism for tanks. With tanks against Rifles all the later wars should be over relatively quickly. I do agree with doing some turns at 0% research to buy some Galleons and do some upgrading in order to invade Gandhi.

War against Gandhi: Stack the majority of the force outside St. Petersburg, send enough units to the 3 cities on our continent to capture them on the turn of declaration. Start by sending the main force to Delhi and just work round from there. Stick with the war until we have his best cities and hen vassalise him.

General stuff: I agree with the national wonder positioning and great work in the war against Darius everyone. Good luck with the national service too Stuge (bit late I know). I don't think we really need another player now, the game's reached the stage where it's mainly just mopping up and closing out the victory.

@Obsolete: Thanks for your analysis, some interesting points there. The timing of the Globe in Moscow was a bit tight, and could have gone wrong, luck was on our side, but that sort of thing shouldn't depend on luck. Not sure what happened with the flanking Cavalry though. A harder game may have been better, maybe normal speed and a leader with less of a good trait combination would've been more challenging. I just didn't feel ready for it at the start of this game, any solo win on Immortal was rare for me, it's still not exactly common, but I'm getting there slowly.

@Colony: we probalby want only Madurai of the three indian cities on our continent (other two are really grabage imo) and the three biggest one on his island before capitulation...
Nothing else to add to your plan... good luck :)

Turn 0 - 1695 AD - Turn research to 0 in order to rush buy some units and allow some upgrades

IBT - Isabella and Bismarck declare war on Tokugawa.

Turn 1 - 1700 AD - Upgrade some Rifles to Infantry, rush a couple of things

IBT - Tokugawa captures Vitoria from Bismarck

Turn 5 - 1708 AD - Turn research back on, Railroad complete in 5 turns. Gandhi is researching Industrialism but still has 12 turns left.

IBT - GG born in Hamburg

Turn 7 - 1712 AD - IBT - Sapporo captured by Tokugawa

Turn 8 - 1714 AD - Declare war on Gandhi. Capture Ujjain, partisans flee to Delhi when it's razed. GG born in Aksum, use him to build a Military Academy in Lalibela. Capture Madurai, losing 1 Infantry as the Spy failed to incite a revolt.

Turn 9 - 1716 AD - Great Spy born in Moscow, start GA. Capture Delhi.

IBT - Lose 2 empty Galleons due to carelessness

Turn 10 - 1718 AD - Not much, just some movement.

I've stacked a few units outside Hyderabad, but it doesn't really need to be taken quickly, there are only 3 defenders (Infantry, Musket, LB) and it's not a particularly important city anyway. The Galleons are currently in Moscow a bit trapped in by 2 Frigates, but the Frigates that were escorting them are healing in Delhi and will be fully healed next turn, so they can be dealt with quickly. Not sure which direction to take the attack in, all of Gandhi's other cities seem to be about size 9-11. Looks like Gandhi isn't going to be too tough though, unsurprisingly.

Combustion's due in 3 turns and after that Electricity will take 4, so tanks aren't too far away now. Should be a nice relaxing turnset for you Sweetacshon.

Edit: I've started stacking a few units north of Moscow too, but I don't know how to remove the rally point so some will still be going to the original place.

One more thought: I think we should consider teching Biology soon (maybe after Industrialism), just to help some of the newly acquired cities grow a bit.

Got it. It's 41 degrees here, so I don't feel like playing... or doing anything except sitting in a bath, or perhaps dying... so I can play when it's cooler.

Plan is to sort out Gandhi, tech to Industrialism, then perhaps bio?? Ramp up military for the tank powered dom win. Simple.

Come in Grenoble my friend, you will be serve
I can't look at the save before this evening but I think we don't need tanks to attack the other continent... more a lot of boats :)

Ouch, makes me glad to live in a country where extremely hot weather's considered anything over about 32 degrees C.

Pretty much, some rush buying a tank army might be the way to go once we have Industrialism.

I looked at the last save yesterday morning. IIRC you really didn't get much worth of specialists from Ghandi's cap, despite his philo. It may look surprisingly low, but that is what happens when they build the colosus.

Well good news are that we now have the Hindu shrine (30gpt) and broadway ...
I would go communism or biology after tanks. Communism first if we keep a significant number of Indian cities... we need it definately for Toku and the likely other cheap victims...

@Obselete: by Colossus you mean that they prefer work sea than specialists?

Cheers

Sorry to do this again, but my sister just had a baby, and in the interests of support, I'm going for a visit. It's a 2 hr car drive, so that means no play now... maybe I'll get it in tonight, but if you want to keep the game moving, play on, and I'll play the next set.

If Ralph can play today or early tomorrow it might be worth swapping, otherwise just play when you get back.

OK I will post a "real" got it if I can play tomorrow morning so check here first Sweetacshon and if I haven't posted take it away when you get back.

Ralph

@Obselete: by Colossus you mean that they prefer work sea than specialists?
No... they end up getting merchants.

Ok a real got it for tomorrow..

Ralph

I'm extending my family visit, and will return Sunday, so pls play, Ralph.

You mean... little Alex want's to spend more time at the Milk-Bar with his little droogies.

A fairly dull set of turns as we roll over Gandhi and finsh “railroading” our mines while teching towards tanks.

Ghandi was falling fast when we had to pause because

1hyder.jpg

He had destroyers in the water.

2gandhidest.jpg

It only cost us a couple of turns of 0% science to upgrade our Frigates and Galleons but then an attractive offer came around which I took as Biology was on our desired list

3bisbiology.jpg

After that we polished off his good cities and took his capitulation unfortunately he wouldn’t give us communism as part of the deal.

5vijay.jpg

6avar.jpg

7bombaypali.jpg

He has islands + junk left so didn’t feel worth pressing on versus him

8gandhinorth.jpg

Navy is on its way with spare transport to pick up our Indian Army from the West Coast

9navy.jpg

By the time they have dropped off the army and returned we will have finished Industrialism and hopefully rushed buy a tank army
If we don’t want to wait for state property we can trade for it from Isabella.
