CO-3: Immortal Emperors

Right, here's what I've got from looking at the save.

Trades: Izzy will trade Sci. Meth. for MT + ~1000 gold or for Lib + MT.
Gandhi will trade Chemistry + 60 gold for MT, trading to him after trading it to Izzy will reduce that amount of gold, we may have to add a small amount of gold to get that trade.

Cities to take: Darius hasn't built the Temple of the Nativity, so I wouldn't put too much of a priority on capturing Tarsus. I was thinking of healing up in Persepolis, and then following the direction shown in the picture.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0020.jpg

An alternative route would be to take Bactra after Susa instead, as I imagine it has fewer units in it and isn't on a hill.

Victory condition: They're all still possible, apart from culture. Domination or SS would probably be the easiest to get. A lot depends on how quickly the other AIs get Rifling, if they get it too soon then quick wars become a lot harder.

I'll try to play this this evening.

Why not march to Bactra straight from Susa and leave Ecbatana to a secondary stack?

I wouldn't put much hope on Darius popping a GP during the war. A slim chance is still a chance, though.

I like you path for the main stack (perhaps without Ecbatana), but I think we shouldn't leave Tarsus alone... even without a shrine, this city is good, and Darius can draft or slave it to size one if he wants (don't remeber his current civics though)... but the job can be done by a secondary stack (Ecbatana -> Tarsus) as Stuge said :)
The trade look fine even if giving MT to Gandhi means that we need artilleries to attack him if we choose to afterward... but if it is the only way to get the tech no prob...
If the war is going well or finished when we reach democraty, we might as well start the Statue of Liberty somwhere...

Cheers

The attack route is good, but I question whether we want to keep Ecbanata at all? Mostly desert, a resource we'll regain soon enough again anyway, a couple of cottages.... I think we could easily burn it, but whatever is decided at the time is fine. Trade away, I'm all for it.

I won't really be available for civ until 28thish, but can probably post.

I agree, Ecbatana is not a keeper... (too bad, I like very much the sound of persian names :( )

I stopped after 11 turns rather than 10, as 10 would've left Bactra uncaptured. I made the trades I posted earlier, and captured 3 cities, not the fastest war progress, but at least it's steady. In a rather worrying development Darius has just managed to tech Railroad and has started upgrading units to Machine Guns. It shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as it's only 1 in each city, but they'll tear Rifles apart unless attacked directly with Flanking 2 Cavalry or Trebs. I turned reseach back up to 60% (-11GPT) near the end, there are only a few Maces left unupgraded, and we have a big stockpile of gold. Gandhi's been busy teching as well, here's the trade screen:

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0021.jpg

I tried taking Ecbatana with a 2nd stack, but Darius was able to reinforce it too quickly with Cuirassiers to be able to, so it's still standing. I did capture Ergili (city west of Moscow), Bactra and Susa though. The game crashed about 4 turns in when I tried to access the event log, and I forgot to restart the autolog, so I don't have a complete summary after 1400, but here's what I can remember:

I've fortified the GS in Aksum as I wasn't sure what to do with him, although bulbing part of Physics is probably the best option. As well as Railroad Darius also has Steel, so watch out for Cannons.

Izzy will trade both economics and constitution against lib + chemistry + spare gold... i think this tarde is fair. Bis' is asking 10 gold for peace, i suggest we take it...
Good job on the war front... next step for our stack Assyrian? Ecbatana and Tarsus must be dealed with though... I hope the war can go on until we have cannons... (at least 30 turns at this rate :( )

Cheers

edit: I found Moscow a little undrafted

Oh... where did he come up with all hose techs after we took his capital? It seems we took too long to turn on him- I'm feeling a little guilty. We're still on const?! Argh, not such good trade bait anymore, and we really need cannon or arty with Darius getting MGs. I suggest we see what we can get out of Izzy for lib/chem and get back on the military track. Or perhaps he's already spent.... hard to know sans-civ.

Q: Is Darius as a vassal now a more attractive option? What about 10 turns of peace if we can get some tech off him (which would be nice considering his techs)?

No, I don't think he will vassalize as we need to have at least double power compared to him... And we need all its continental cities at least... Also I don't think it is a good idea to let him have 10 turns of peace... better to increase the draft, produce troops everywhere and speed up the war :)
i agree though we should trade techs with Izzy (see my previous post) and stop war with Bismarck and OB with him asap (and change civics after economics if other AIs are not in mercantilism anymore)

Cheers

Merry Xmas all,

Just realised I am up, but I couldn't have played over Xmas anayway. Will play in the next couple of days as Xmas dies down but if somebody wnats to grab the save I will check here first.

Ralph

Sweetacshon said he'd be back around now, but go ahead and play this turnset, looks like he isn't back yet.

Yeah, got back last night, and about 10kg heavier.:D I'll go out on a limb and say I'll get it done tonight. (got it)

Ok Sweetachson the save is yours.

Ralph

The limb was thinner and more brittle than expected.:D Playing now.

Who's still using an old version of BUG??!! :gripe:

I don't have much time for a writeup, as my NY festivities are starting very soon. The attached pic is basically the inefficient, meandering route that the troops took, the green dots we kept, and the red were razed. Ectabana still stands, bewilderingly (and to the detriment of our nearby cities), but will fall in a turn or two if we want to suicide some cannon fodder. After that, it's a short trip over to Tarsus, where we can take the christian holy city, and then think about vassalising Darius for a fistful of techs, leaving him in the icy south.

I procured democracy and economics, teched steel, and just started physics - feel free to change that. We need to get back on the tech track, and do all those things that builders love... banks, markets, observatories, tao missionaries, etc, as well as switch civics. I really wanted to switch mid TS, but felt it should be discussed. I suggest rep, free speech, CS, free market.

OK, so next set is finishing off Darius and recovery, and we could finally trade rifling to G.. unless of course we want to move straight onto him. :mischief:

The last two cities we wanted fell in short order.

Unfortunately this was the best we could get for capitulation from Darius but it is on the Beeline for Infantry if we want.

corporation.jpg

After that we took the Civic switch shown. I didn’t opt for Caste at this point as it was an extra turn of Anarchy and we still had some of Darius’ unhappy citizens to whip away.

civics-2.jpg

We finished the part researched Physics which seems a good place to stop. Options are probably Democracy as Emancipation unhappiness is kicking in or push on for Infantry.
