Has anybody noticed how little coal there is on the average map? This drives me crazy when I just enter the Industrial Age (usually around the 1850s, which by the way, is that too late? I am a heavy technology freak and am always better than everybody else, I usuall go for a space victory, although I've only one once with a diplomatic victory) and I research Steam Engine (or whatever is the prerequisite for finding coal) and I don't see a damn bit of coal! I scoure the map for coal (in territory other than my own) but I just don't see it.
The area is usually blacked out, but will I be able to see coal in territory with fog over it that I haven't gotten an updated version of since I traded maps before I discovered coal? How does this work?
Another thing, if I plant a forest in an area where there is already a natural resource (horses, abundant grasslands, grain, etc.) will there be a higher likelyness of coal apearing in the forest?
I guess my overall question is, where is the coal???
