Colonies IV MP beta test

Oh, well, roads too. I was thinking in terrain improvement, like irrigation and the like...

But roads only for combat purpouse, not for trade ;)

I think it's OK for Sappers to act as road bilders and drainage engineers. I might give Sweden a few more Farmers in the SP game, but they won't get many colonists....

As for the other bugs Yaro, thanks. I don't have time tonight or tommorow (Xmas parties! :D ) but I will fix them by Friday night and send out the final version and start the Threads.

Well, I'll try my best to find more bugs before Friday.

One thing I've noticed is that the AI is much more agressive towards me than in 4.11. It's very curious: I'm in war with all Europe (except England, but I don't trust the heretic Pirates' land too much) :)

:bday: :bday: :bday:

Happy birthday, Steve!!!!! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

:bday: :bday: :bday:

Feliz, feliz en tu dia,
amigito de toda la vida
y que cumplas muchos más

(It is what we sang in the birthday of our friends when we were kids:

Happy, you be happy in your day,
friend that have been friend all my life,
and may you have much more birthdays)

I've fixed the two Spanish Town Charters that were building, by changing them to Granaries. I think the scenario is ready for the Tournament now. I have also been working on some victory conditions, anlong the lines of what I suggested before - a cumulative VP calculation each decade, so we can see who is winning, and have a winner even if we never finish the whole tournament.

Tomorrow I will ship the scenario and the VP calculator, and explain the working in a new Home Page Thread for the Tournament. I will start the five threads - unless you want 6 and an umpire - do we have a sixth? I suspect not....

This is what I have come up with. If you object to the principles or want to suggest new values, please do so.

Each decade score is taken at the end of the Autumn of the xxx9 year, eg the first one is Autumn 1639
There are two competitions: the first registers the Decade performance (as above);
The second scores between the Civs. Eg the best English player, the best French player, in that decade
Tournament Points are scored, each decade, in each competition as follows:
First Place..............7
Second Place.........4
Third Place.............2
Fourth Place..........1
Last Place..............0

The performance of the AI, playing the Hapsburgs and the Independents, is ignored

In Autumn 1699, the decade score is added to the overall average century score, to give the total points for that decade. These Tournament Points count double.
In Autumn 1779, the decade score is added to the overall average scenario score to give total points for that decade. These Tournament Points count quadruple.
The grand total determines the ultimate winner in each competition
If theTournament finishes before 1780, the current total of Tournament points are to be applied.

The points are awarded for acheivement as follows:

Factor..................................................VPs
Population
Citizens, per head..................................1
European Cities (9+)............................20
European Large Towns (5-8).................8
European Small Towns (<5)...................4
Large Colonies (5+)...............................5
Small Colonies (<5)................................2
Technology (tradeable)
Per "common" tech................................4
Per "unique" tech................................12
Technology (non-tradeable)
Per "starred" (*) tech even if uniqu.......2
Wonders
Per active Wonder...............................15
Per inactive ...........................................5

What do you think? I have a spreadsheet to do all the hard sums....;)

I like that system, but I think we should also set some rules, about what is allowed (eg: LazyCiv) and what isn't allowed.

I agree, the system looks very nice and should be used. I really hope we can agree on the use of Lazyciv. Without it i'm not sure i would agree to join the tournament. The loss of production in the cities as a result of the "AI move" can ruin much of the game.

Well, I suggest that if players want to use Lazyciv, we could use the Repair function of my utility, CivDip, that I think is easier to use and fixs not only the production of cities but also the goverments swaping that the AI has show in some scens (mainly in Exile's Age of War).

The problem is, that even when my utility works not only in PCs but also in MACs, Henrik's computer has a problem with Java and can't run the program.

I could use the utilty for fixing Henrik's production if we agree so and Henrik's allow me to do so, becuase I don't need to enter into the savefiles as I'd need with Lazyciv.

However, I've had only one time a problem with productions and I've played PBEMs many times :D

Other rule I'd like to agree in is that we should report any tech discovered (it's not secret, as we've embassies with everyone other), any city conquered, etc.

Another thing about the scen: I just noticed that Garrison units (that you got with State Comision Army) are not buildable anymore... I agree with that - they were too powerful for their price.

I say we use Yaros new utility especially since it is a one stop place to fix production and do diplomacy.

And I trust Yaro without question so there is no reason he could not help Henrik out.

The system is fine by me. Hoepfully I will be motivated once a month to clac the scores :)

That's ok with me :)

I just downloaded another java update though, I'll test if it works now... If it doesn't you're free to do it for me as suggested.

Btw, is there anything that you learned during the beta testing that should be "public knowledge"?

I mean, since you're all veteran Colony players except myself, i would appreciate some tips to avoid the obvious blunders :D

First of thanks everyone for the birthday greetings!

Second of all whatever you do SAS, keep away from John he is EVIL!

I will try and think of some MP things, right now the biggest thing I can think off is in MP your ships dont sink.

And overall in this scenario, food and growth is a major hassle. Because John limited the food and also we are close to the maximum in number of cities so after a very short time after the start you can no longer form colonies UNTIL you destroy some native cities.

And the only way to get trade units early is to "Hunt Beaver". Except for the Dutch I believe. The beavers you get act as trade units.
