Colonies IV MP beta test

I'm ready to start, allthough i'm still not completely familliar with all the units. But i think i'm ready to go.

Btw, why no stack option?

What do you mean by "stack option"? The fortress-building by sappers works OK - I just checked.

Do you mean Stackable squares by default, as in Bonaparte?

Yeah, like Bonaparte.

But i guess this is a game issue, with the sappers fortress building and so on. I dont mind that the units isnt stackable, i wans just wondering ;)

The reason Stian (which you won't have heard discussed because you were not on the original playtest) was that stackable squares stopped the Natives from moving (they went straight into fortify mode as soon as thay left a city square).

This doesn't matter on Bonaparte so much, but in Colonies IV, Native activity is vital to the scenario.

I am ready but I have a suggestion.

Begin setting up the threads with a goal of starting this weekend, because then Henrik will be free from the oppression of education :)

And before we all get to exicited the holidays are already here so it maybe slow at the beginning.

I may be gone most of that week after XMASS for instance.

Just a thought.

It's a fair point. I will be away myself over New Year. But I will set up the threads this weekend, and send out any final edits that have come up. We can start slowly as it will be over the holidays, but it will take a bit of time to do all the diplomacy you always get at the start, anyway.

Have you guys allready decided on the nations we play?

All 5, its a tournament.

But before you "pop a vein" from the Boney Tourney experience, just remember this is only 5 not 7 players AND it is invitation only.

The only wild card we may have is Yaro, who may get a job in the next few months and be away for a while. I gues we will have to cros that bridge when we come to it. :)

Or maybe I'll get it in a few weeks... I went today to a C (programm language) test for working in a big American corporation and I think it went nice. I'll tell you more in a few weeks ;)

 The problem is that if I get the job, I'm not going to go to America (:( I'd love to work in America, if only a few years :(), but to Madrid, Spain's capital. And in Madrid there is a lot of Internet conectivity (more than in Malaga, where I live now), but I've two problems:

*The computer I use is my parent's computers. No problem with that, but I probably be unable to get it to Madrid and I've no enough money to buy one yet.

*I'm too shy/coward to post/play civ2 while at work (Well, I was too shy/coward to post/play civ2 while at university, at it was much more safer).

But all this is going to happen only if I get that job in Madrid. And that is a BIG if. Even if I get the job, the salary could be so low that I'd be not able to move to Madrid (renting a house there is very expensive lately).

So, don't worry, I don't know if I'd move to Madrid and I'll tell you in advance.

But if I move, I'll return here as soon as I've earned enough money to buy a computer :D

Back to the topic, Jhon, there are a few Spanish colonies that start the scen building Town Charters: I've noticed Saltillo and Santiago de Cuba. I suppose that it is a bug and not a desired feature...

Um... two more things...

1) The Galleon of Manila is probably the most useless unit of the scen :D. It would only be useful if one foreign civ captures a Spanish colony in the pacific ocean AND then that civ start to launch an attack again Manila :D

2) You should add a house rule with the Sappers not being used by anything other than build fortifications.

Now a nice pic: the Spanish Fleet in its way...

And an advice for playing the Spanish (specially to tournament players ;)): take care of colonial cities and LEARN the fixed native attacks of the second turn: prevent them and you'll save the colonies (it's easier in MP than in SP, because the natives attack in the French turn, so the AI defends the cities - and the AI cheats ;)).

Please don't. Sweden (and I think holland too, not sure if this applies to any other country) doesn't get any farmers at all through events. They only get the odd colonist in america. This would make it literally impossible to improve the land for these countries before the 1700s rolls around.
Besides sappers should be able to build bridges for the armies to cross on surely? ;)

Yes mobility and counter-mobility are primary taskings of combat engineers. (I know) ;)
