Colonies IV MP beta test

Independents declare war on the Spanish. French Canadian furs smuggled into London (662,000 thalers)

Pirate English Galleon destroyed off Plymouth, and all hands summarily hung at the yardarm.

(Veteran Galleon defeats (presumably) veteran Galleon, which was well into the red.)

The war against Spain in the Alps has not got off to a good start.

(Veteran Royal Cannon defeated by Spanish Pikemen on Mountains/River - I assume they were veteran too)

It was a close contest, but the Spanish win derails our attack there somewhat. A major loss of our best artillerymen in the area. A risky tactic to stack both Pikemen together, Yaro, but it paid off, since I could not attack the weakened unit again...

(Veteran Chevalier defeats Independent Arquebusiers on Grassland/River) - near Nice.

Off Cork, a Spanish Galleon defeated, but only after sinking a French ship of similar size.

(Veteran French Galleon loses to Spanish Galleon. Regular French Galleon defeats badly-damaged Spanish Galleon and is promoted veteran)

Please could everyone adopt this "full" style of casualty reporting, giving veteran status (where known) and the defensive terrain fought on, so I can compile the stats? Thanks. Keep the casualties in brackets, and the other reportage in normal text.

Wa Wa, the only thing you didn't get was the first attack, hurry up and get it over with.
I seriously thought that sneak-attacking a country without declaring war was a speciality of American Republicans...oh, I get it! Should have figured....

Really, I thought that in a playtest game that winning "by any means" was hardly the point. I DO feel aggrieved, and I am not "over it". If you wanted first move in the war, just give me the same notice of YOUR attack. However....

I am away at Microsoft (UK) for some boring seminar/workshops all next week. Back on Friday.

P&P

The war against France is gonna being played defensively. Troops have taken positions and we're expecting the Jurgennaut to come!

(An Independent unit (a cannon) destroyed near Spanish Netherlands with a Royal Cannon - quite easy, of course.)

Come on John you are acting like I attacked 3 or 4 turns before we all agreed. This only gave me the first attack. Get over it.

Winning by any means? John this war was over before it started, and if you dont realize that, something is seriously wrong. All you have to do is a holding action against Spain in the South and then with lots of Dutch and Swedish help, over running England should be no problem sooner or later. The ONLY reason Im continueing is for playtest purposes.

In that reguard, Ill go back and try and figure what the ship to ship attacks were and report them here.

I think "well into the red" is an understatement. Nonetheless if I remember correctly it was "veteranized" by the sinking of that Dutch Galleon with I assume a carrack beneath. So This attack could have gone either way and base on my experience I was kind of suprised it actually won the battle.

So I think a regular Galleon attacked a regular galleon, became veteran and used up virtually all of its "life" sinking the ship.

The other carrack sunk farther east was a peice of cake. )Sunk by galleon of course), I had enough movement left after the sinking to get back to port. It was at least several spaces.

Thanks for that, Steve. Yes, I seem to find in SP that attacking with a Galleon on another Galleon, given equal veteran status, the defender wins 60% of the time. Which is about right. I would accept 50%, but anything less needs fixing....

My experience is also in the sense that a vet galleon has adventage when defends :)

The Galleon that attacked the Carrack last turn had a wee bit of a sliver off the "life". Lots of green left.

Not much this turn.

Manuever for the inevitable........

Dutch spies have stolen the Spanish rutters (naval maps), but despite this provocation, the Spanish will not go to war with us. The Estates General are not prepared to sign Prince Mauritz's declaration of war document, so for now we are still at peace.

Yaro, please attack the Dutch so we can get this battle started...

Independents declare war on the Dutch.

More Slaves and Furs taken.

A Spanish galleon sunk off the Channel Islands.
(Veteran French Galleon beats Spanish Galleon, still 50% Hit points left.)

A Spanish tercio that was threatening Orthez has been broken up by artillery fire and repeated volleys by arquebusiers. However, French losses were high.
(French culverin defeated by Spanish Pikemen - veterans almost certainly and fortified on a Hill - Arquebusiers also defeated, final French Arquebusier attack successful and French unit promoted veteran with little or no damage.)

Swiss siege train ambused in the mountain passes.
(French veteran Arquebusier defeats Independent Royal Cannon in mountains, with little damage to itself)

French units continue to gather in Cherbourg, Calais and Brest....

Ups - Not desired post. See the next post, please :(

War declared against the Dutch. A Dutch carrack sunken near French coast. The French Veteran Galleon was sunk (by a Spanish Veteran Galleon, few damages taken, but the french unit was at very bad pace)

Sweden declared war against me :(
