Colonization!

when i try and play it, I get an error about the pedialicon. Anyone have any idea on what to do? I believe i've downloaded and placed everything in the correct spot.
 
I don't have PTW but I have the same problem with the Pedia Icons. Any idea what went wrong and how to fix it? I'm dyin' to play this mod!
 
I followed Jason's instructions closely. Tried it several times and each time I come up with errors in the pediaicons.txt file. I believe I am running Civ3 version 1.29f ... are there known conflicts or solutions out there? Come on people, talk to me! :cry:
 
Ville, I only added what Jason said I should add. I followed the instructions and still get the error! Any suggestions? I'm kind of new to the whole mod thing.
 
this mod looks really good but i will wait before i dl because there still seem to be probs with it...
 
If you really want to play this scenario, you need to do the following:

1) Follow Jason's original instructions regarding placement of files / graphics / units etc.

2) Launch the Civ3Edit (not PTW Editor).

3) From the FILE menu, select OPEN

4) Navigate to the Civ3 Scenarios folder and open the file "Jasons Colonization v12"

5) Under the RULES menu, select the submenu EDIT and then select IMPROVEMENTS AND WONDERS.

6) The Improvements and wonders tab should automatically be selected. By default the value should read PALACE. Select the pull down arrow to the right of this and scroll down until you find the entry labelled CHICHEN ITZA and select it.

7) Go to the field labelled CIVILOPEDIA ENTRY. It should read "BLDG_Chichen_Itza". You must change this one entry to read "BLDG_Pyramids". Spelling counts so make sure you have it right!!

8) Click on the CLOSE button.

9) Go to the FILE menu and select SAVE.

10) Exit the editor.

The scenario should now play. Unfortunately Jason referenced a building that isn't present which is why everyone was getting the error.

I'm writing these instructions because I don't want to take responsibility for modifying some else's scenario.

I have tested this with CIV3 v1.29f and it works fine now.

Another problem:

Jason has changed the names of the technological eras, but the original ones are apparently needed when looking for leader graphics. This causes the game to crash when a unit produces a leader figure.

I haven't tried it yet, but I suspect adding new unit folders for leaders of pre-colonisation era and the others would help.
 
I have the old colonization....and the old civilization too :P

Hmm.. yes yes, the translation problem. In germany we have the problem between the local german and english versions (they aren't compatible), so it is almost a must to have some kind of a translation-tool.. So there is already a discussion to create such a tool. (so that german-Scenarions are able to run with english versions)

A general english translation of my Colo-Scenario : uff ! mabe, but not too soon after that weekend-modding-ownage :D

Once a moderator comes across this, it's likely that the link will be removed.

Where are you guys on the conquests conversion? I bought Conquest for this very purpose and was supprised to see someone else already on it.

I started working on it myself from scratch. Here's where I'm at so far:

1.Changed European part of map to one city islands and took away ambphibious attack from units to keep computer from attacking capitals.

2. Added a resource called Europe and placed it on each European island capital. It is the required resouce for all units exclusive to the "Old World"

3. Added a canoe (0/1/1) unit as the exclusive naval transport for native american civ's.

4. Added "El Dorado" wonder (makes explorer ever 8 turns) and "Fountian of Youth" wonder (gives city growth)

5. The UU's I have so far are: England, Sea Dog and Pilgram (colonist that doesn't require support) Netherland, Caravel and Swiss Mercenary France, Trapper (explorer/settler combo) and Musketeer Spain, Conquestador and Tercio Portugal, Caravel.

Any thoughs on these? I'll add founding fathers next after play testing new units and debugging.
