For the stuff that your creating I could see double that time and still be happy. I can't say how nice it is to see someone working on ancient units that are realistic as well as good. Besides the phalangist, peltast, and hypaspists how long will it take you to finish that Greek looking calvary? anyways good stuff, and thanks for all your hard work.

Just a quick update to let you know my (slow) progress.

I've had to make some small changes to the Macedonian Pike Phalanx since we last spoke. I've left off the Macedonian 'star' emblem and gone for just a plain bronze shield (this is because the shield changes perspective as it moves about, and it is very hard to show the 'star' as the shield gets narrower without the emblem 'floating').

I've only got half the attack.flc done so far, but I'm quite happy with the Thracian type helmet and the shield. I wish I could make the pike longer, but it has to stay within the frame. One thing I'm not sure about is the right elbow. What do you think....

(....hmmm....the left hand needs to be enlarged/highlighted, as he looks like he is holding the pike with his right hand only....)

I wholeheartedly agree with Scipio on this one. Though in order to make the left hand stand out more, you might want to include it in the shadow :) Besides that though, this unit is a masterpiece, looks alot better than the units Firaxis made. Ever get the urge to make a Star Wars unit?? :D
 
here are some bitmaps for the AoE egyptian warrior. I thought you might be able to use them in your mod. The zip just contains the raw bitmaps that need to be compiled into an usable animation.
 
Now that Jimmyh has posted the AoE Phalanx in the Units Forum, I was thinking of putting my Macedonian Pikeman (...still not finnished :( ...) on hold for the moment and maybe get started instead on the Peltast.

Here is a quick unanimated preview (or I could finish the Phalangite first if you want):-

I think starting the peltast is a good idea.. i could always uses Jimmyh's phalanx until you may come around with finishing the phalangite.
 
just curious Kryten... how close are you to finishing the peltast and/or phalangite? I eagerly await them...

I'm sorry that it I'm so slow. But I am still working on it. It just takes me so long!

Also, for everyone, once the scenario editor is released I will try to get a team together to work on this scenario/mod. I hope for it to be very accurate and in-depth, and will need all the help I can get. Stay tuned.
 
Work on the Macedonians is still continuing (albeit at my usual slooowww pace!).

In the mean time, I thought that I'd post a list of the of the units I'm making so that you could have some idea of what's coming.
Think of it as a sort of catalogue of new ancient animations.

There are several other excellent units created by other people that are not in this list, such as Lab Monkey's lovely Arab Horsemen and Eastern Pikeman, the Civ3 Chinese Rider, and the many AoE units of JimmyH. This is beause in my own game I use these for the earlier & later periods outside the time scale of your mod. Lab Monkey's Arabian Horseman for exmple would be perfect for the Persians, but then the Saracens in my own game would be stuck for a unit in the Crusades. So it seemed to me that the easiest thing to do would be to create a new animation called the Persian Horseman, which I'll use in my own game and gives you more choices for the Alexander Mod.
(BTW, I have NO interest in making a mod, at least not this year. I'd much sooner just make the units and use other peoples mods! :D )

The stats for the units in the following chart are laid out as attack/defence/move/(cost), and are for comparison purposes only. These will need to be adjusted of course to fit their role in your mod, along with any other units that you wish to add. Oh, and I may add a cloak to the Companion Horseman, which is difficult to see with the current angle.
(And don't forget....if I go quiet....remind me! :D )

For Scythian cities you can also use the names of Scythian gravesites. Some of them sound kinda Russian, though (of course). Please correct me if anything is wrong there.
