I've been playing civ 4 BtS for some time now (I just barely played Vanilla and never played Warlords) and have been constantly improving my game. I started at Noble. When I got tired of having an empire that is X-times the size of the others, I moved on, to Monarch. I played several games there, I achieved every kind of victory at least once and now I've moved up to Emperor. Now I'm playing my… 3rd game or something. I picked Gilgamesh of Sumeria. After founding my 2nd and 3rd City, I rushed Zara Yaqob of the Ethiopians. After that I rushed Augustus Caesar, still with my now veteran Vultures. When declaring on Augustus the first time (I DOWd twice), he bribed Churchill to attack me. We were in "war" for about 1000-2000 years, and I never spotted so much as a Scout.
Now as this is the first time I play Gilgamesh and I had Marble three tiles away from my Capital, I went Priesthood - Oracle - Metal Casting to build a forge in my second city and run an Engineer who would lightbulb Machinery for me. The idea was to kill another rival with those veteran Vultures (Strength 6 Axeman with +25% against Melee) and Xbowmen, while the AIs strongest unit still is the Swordsmen.
Now, at 40 AD, I'm building some Xbowman to declare war ASAP, on Cyrus, who so cheekily settled some cities in MY land as I couldn't afford to found any more cities even thought Ziggurats have been built everywhere.
Trouble only is that from the first wars against Zara and Caesar, I have about -2 to -3 diplo penalties from declaring on their friends. Only Ragnar likes me as he too fought Churchill (apparently the decision to DOW was his oO) as we have mutual military struggle bonuses. The whole world is Hindu as Zara founded Buddhism and had no time spreading it anywhere. I think it would be rather dangerous attacking Cyrus (he still has a slightly more powerful army than me) as everybody will hate me (still they're cautious at least). I don't expect any Trouble from Churchill, his land is small, he's rather backwards and isn't that popular. Lincoln I don't know too well, but he is very close. Gandhi is peaceful and close by, he'd be the next target (shiny shiny shrine). Ragnar isn't really on my border but sill, I don't trust him, even if I'm his best friend (or at least a good one) but he might be bribed and this would end up nastily for me.
Lincoln I can't attack as it would let me end up sharing borders with every one (and this adding MORE diplo penalties) and everyone easily could attack me. Another plus for attacking Persia is Persepolis: It built The Great Lighthouse, The Pyramids (well after my GE spawned) and The Great Wall. I huge minus for attacking Cyrus are those Immortals, as they get +50% against XBows and +100% against Axes (Vultures!). Attacking an Immortal would get me a 6.0 vs 6.0 (XBow vs Imm) or 6.0 vs 8.0 (Vulture vs Imm). So I built a couple of Swords.
Poor exploration partly due to "war" with Chruchill and partly due to lazyness. But I didn't care as I know every rival and know where they're situated (at least shrudely).
Techwise, I'm not actually behind. I lack ABC, Maths, Currency, Monarchy, Horseback Riding, Sailing, and Polytheism (currently researching for Literature). But as I'm the only one with MC and Machinery I could easily trade me back again. The only civ who knows the secrets of Aesthetics are the Indians who proceeded straight towards Literature (:() but will hopefully get distracted by those other wonders from Aestethics (I'm currently building The Statue of Zeus).

If somebody can tell me how to upload my save, please step ahead.. I tried that Easy Upload System Button on the right top but there was just a small window opening and closing right again...

Now I'd like to hear some comments about how YOU would proceed!

Well you can't fight everyone, but it does sound like you have a good aggressive game going. Without actually seeing the geographic location of each of the AI, I would buddy buddy up to one neighbor (maybe even use one as a buffer) and attack your nearest and most dearest rival. Depending on your economy and how many cities you currently have, you may not need to attack and just focus on teching and diplo. Beeline civil service so you can unlock maces / cats, then hit currency for economy recouperation.
