Research on Writing will be complete in 16 turns. We are, of course, researching writing as a part of an early goal set by the Research and Technology Consul - to be the first nation to research Philosophy, and thus recieve a new tech.
At the moment, we are 16 turns away from completing research on writing. We started research on this tech at the mininmal 50-turn rate, which has set our science slider at 10% since the beginning of the game.
In order to pull through with the Philo gambit, I believe some changes to the current slider and trading policy will be in order.
One, we will have to research Philosophy at half, or even max, science.
Two, we will have to refrain from trading away Writing technology for the majority of the time we are researching Philo, so that it would be impossible for the AI to pursue that tech for the time being.
As far as I know, there are the only two steps we can take to help guarentee our sucess. There will be, though, one major consequence. Our gold supplies will dwindle as we increase research into Philosophy. This surplus, provided by our minimal research on writing, has allowed to keep an aggressive tech purchase policy. We obviously won't be able to keep that up during the time that is spent researching philosophy.
So, does this plan sound good? Is there something I've missed? Please, comment!
