Community Patch: Events - a new upcoming feature!

To make things clear, I'm not taking event requests. That's the whole point of this endeavor - to make it easy for YOU to make events!

G

Hm, yeah, it's like a drug. I've since added two separate chain events to CID: Provinces, with three events in them each. Coming from having made over 100 E&D events between my civs and my gameplay mods, easy undersells it  I hope other modders will - eventually - follow suit.

I thought of something really cool to possibly add to the CBP in regards to events.

So, one concern about the CBP is that happiness below 0 is not nearly as big of a bad thing as it is on the main game. However, it is necessary that the penalties are not immediately too harsh because of the way the happiness system works.

So my idea is: Corruption Events. Corruption Events represent what happens when an empire is badly run. Authorities steal money from the coffers, and generally self-interest of the few gets in the way of the good of the people. They would all be bad, of course.

The way it would work is: every happiness below 0 will increase the chance of a corruption event happening, which pressures leaders to try to get rid of it so as to avoid them.

The best part is there would be probably little to no AI training required for this feature.

Cool idea!

I have already done this but has not released yet. It's essentially where the amount of unhappiness gives you a random chance at 6 types of corruption events, so -20 unhappiness gives you a 20% chance of incurring the corruption and so on. If you're getting more than -100 unhappiness then you have a problem. However, malevolence civilizations get sort of a bonus from this since they often like to conquer empires and capture cities. So, a corruption event would sort of help them by incurring less gold loss and such.

Cool. I feel this should not be a separate thing though, and be implemented in the CBP, as it fixes a balance problem we have currently.

<Glances warily at computer, wondering if Wodhann is spying on his SQL tables.> :)

Wonder when that will be? I suppose I'll hold out on starting a new game.

Well if I wait for this to be released before I start a new game, it'll be delayed indefinitely. But if I start a new game now, it'll be release within the hour. So that settles it, I'm starting a new game right now. You're welcome, everyone!

I'm just poking my head in to check, since it's now April 2 - this is still real, right?

Okay, fine, one thing on my cheat sheet I'll never implement, but had thought about implementing: end-game global disasters (i.e. tying civ into Beyond Earth's dismal opener). Was a pipe dream at the end of my list. :)

G

No, I was thinking natural disasters to destroy improvements, random fallout appearing, city unhappiness needs skyrocketing for no reason...in other words, the doomsday scenario of the opening cinematic of Beyond Earth.

Less Al Gore, more Al Gore...in space.

G

Don't suppose there's any scope for this being included G?

Honestly I hope someone makes an addon with a bunch of events. I've always loved events and Events and decisions is really unstable for me, so hearing this news is great and I hope there are a bunch of events made. Thanks Gazebo and JFD for all your hard work!

You could be that person! I mean it when I say the events system is dead simple to use.

Once I get a feel for the events already included, I'm dead set on writing a bunch of them for the people in my office. What would the best way to crowdsource events be?

This is big enough that we might be best served in making a new subforum and try to organize and sanction the best-liked / most balanced events.

Our illustrator wants me to make a Kaiju event that summons a barbarian GDR when coastal cities get too big.

As I'm the one who keeps his copy of CBP up to date, I think my mission is to write this event in and surprise him.

Subforums aren't a dime a dozen :/
