Community Patch - How To Install

hi, i'm confused, there are two files in the mega folder. i'm not sure which is the proper one? i have the 7-17-3 installed, but there's also 7-29-1 which seems newer, but i don't know what's the difference? where's the changelog? should i download and install the newer file? i don't really understand how the version numbering works, there's a date mentioned as the "newest version" and that would correspond to 7-17. so 3 would be the 3rd version from that day? but there's also 4.7.17 next to the date. which would be 7-17-4? and 7-29 should be newer, but it's not listed as the newest release in the first post (and that would be 1.29.7?)...
so... should i download the newer file? or should i just play the one i have installed and wait for the version currently in beta?
(7-27) is the date and (-4) is the hotfix. If you really want to play the newest version, come over to the beta thread instead. This is where we test things, provide feedback and also where Vox Populi gets it's name from. :c5happy:

Hi G! Could you please update the manual instaler to display the most current version of VP ? I have a problem with the EUI VP instaler. Can't get it to work where the non EUI version works.I tried everything from deinstalling the game, mods,VP but nothing works.

I agree, it is confusing at first. Here's what's up: the date (7-27) always reflects which version is the latest and the 3rd number (-4) means hotfix. If you are like me and really want to play the newest version, you can come over to the beta thread. This is where we test things, provide feedback and Vox Populi gets it's name from. :c5happy:

thanks, but i still don't know what's the difference (feature wise) between 7-17 and 7-29 which is obviously newer, isn't listed as the latest version and also isn't a beta version :) i read the beta thread to see what's going on but since i play on chieftain or warlord (so the game is easy anyway and my feedback wouldn't apply to games played on harder levels) and just a game or two every few months i just want to play the latest version deemed worthy of a final release ;) just finished two occ games and i think ive had my share for a few months :D

I think 7-29 was beta-version https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/new-beta-version-july-29th-7-29.648169/ But I recommend a try on the newest 9-15-4 version. Atm I play warlord Denmark there, and it is fun :ar15:

I think 7-29-1 is actually the better balanced version compared to 7-17, as long as you don't abuse the mass settling strategy and the skirmisher line. If you want harder settling and happiness in general, and lots of combat changes, try the latest version.

thank you! if i play before current beta goes final i'll use this version, then.

I'm having trouble figuring out what is the current version.

The top of this forum Thread says:
Newest Version:
July 17th (4.7.17)

The Mega link for automatic install offers the following options:
  • 7-13-3
  • 7-29-1
The Google Drive alternate download link offers this option:
  • 8-7-4
I'm kinda completely lost by this versioning.

The Google Drive one has the largest number, but it's only on the "alternate download link". Is it the newest?

yes, it's confusing, i had the same problem a few days ago. on the mega the file is actually 7-17-3. i guess the format is: month-day-hotfix number (so if the first version is 1, hotfix 3 is the version 4, so this is the version 4.7.17). 8-7-4 is either a newer beta or an old version from a previous year ;) the format is absurd, if you ask me, if it's by date, then it should also have a year in it, reversing the order of day and month between the version stated on the first page and the name of the file and all the rest doesn't help.

I only use the CP but my game turns gets slow and laggy. some one here said this mod should make the turns faster but my game is getting slower turns. any one with an answer for help? :)

Mod conflict? What mods except for CP do you use?

Well, this mod list do i use if you can tell anything from that. i just played a long game into modern era with these mods, and without the CP and the turn time was fine. So i just added CP and it got slow

not sure if it's got to do with your problem specifically, but changing to quick movement and combat makes turns go faster. it seems ai is just moving all these units with their standard speed "behind the scenes", and it's one of the main factors making the turns last longer as the game progresses and there are more units.

Well it's not that. I have tried many different things to make the game faster. It's slower from turn one when i use the CP.

Hi so I'm having a problem in chieftain mode(please no calling me a noob people play games for different reasons and I want to feel like an OP god) where Order is to high no matter what buildings I sell and my cities go into rebellion. Plus I can't immidatly make peace with them which makes no sense logically because if there is a rebellion and the government is willing to give into their demands(which I would be) the vast majority of rebels would not want independence(though I guess that does make sense balance wise) Because the game has given me no indication to much order was bad I kept upping my order. Can you help because right now the game is unplayable.

this is probably not the right thread. i don't understand what your problem is or what you mean by "too high order" and "upping order". maybe your ideology is unpopular which makes people unhappy. i think world opinion about ideology is based on tourism output, never had this kind of problem myself. if that's the case, you should change ideology, solve unhappiness or produce tourism. not sure why you think selling buildings would help?

This topic is about installing it, not bugs, issues, etc. If you have questions about something not related to installing, you need to post it in the correct topic or start one.

honestly this community patch in my humble opinion doesn't go far enough like the mods in caveman2cosmos or a new dawn mods in civ iv

the very one thing this lacks is adding on civilizations like these mods do.

for if you look closely on the steam community jdf author did beautifully a lot of these civilizations additional mods but as time went on and the updates with the game including the community patch progressed. for whatever reason that I am not a coder his mods just didn't work as well even with updates.

even another author who tried to combine all the mods together for civilizations including jdf author under the mod CIV_V_KINGJABBA_DLC_XVIII

he didn't spell out how to install it seamlessly into civ 5 assests folder.

so honestly the one thing that lacks in the modder community for civ 5 versus civ 4 is simple:

there is no 1 mod that lives up to the 3 giant good mods of civ IV:

1. Civ IV: A new Dawn
2. Realism Invictus
3. Caveman2Cosmos

If you all added more civilizations or worked with the guy who is trying to do this additional mod that is in the Civfanatics forum to make sure that it would create a mod that lives up to these 3 where you got plenty of civilizations that actually work with the game. Well, that is my only beef with this community patch that I tried to play it and even if the AI is great. Well, it is like a vanilla without countless civilizations like in these 3 giant mods of Civilization IV.

Caveman2Cosmos has the virtually everything that everyone tried to put together in Civ 5 with many different authors over the years but the one thing this modding community for whatever reason didn't have a team in place to put all of these modding authors under 1 roof to where you could go from prehistoric to future times with plenty of civilizations that didn't have issues with bugs or game play balance issues.

If you hold that standard that I would like to see; well hope someone gets these dev modders hoping to talk to each other due to this is a great game yet unless you get it to the standard of those 3 great mods in Civ IV; well what is the freaking point of buying Civ 5?

Honestly, yes this would be a great AI to deal with but not still feels like a vanilla game if you look hard enough with a bunch of civilizations not fully working right. So in theory if you keep making the Community patch better but forget about how to add on a bunch of civilizations at least; well to me this defeats the purpose how to make this game as great or better than the mods in Civ IV.

Sadly if you look at the prehistoric mod tech tree that doesn't seem to combine well with the other two mods for the additional tech tree; well again that is the other entire issue. So if you wish to hold the best standard out of all these 3 great mods in Civ IV; well play them all yet hold the standard to Caveman2Cosmos.

That standard may never be achieved again but if you all get modders who are still doing these other mods that I just mentioned and work with them; well you all might get there. Just wish you all would since I actually like this game with its flaws but just spoiled with the mods in Civ IV. You all got the pieces in the steam community that if you made sure all the pieces work together; then this would live up to all 3 with 1 great community patch mod.

Sadly I tried to go without the community patch mod and trying to piece all of these pieces together wasn't working. Even with this patch I still feel without more civilizations that work with the community patch and going from prehistoric to future would be the best route to go like caveman2cosmos. Yet even if that don't work well more civilizations that work with the community patch would be awesome feat in itself. Again I am rambling on but that is my wish for holiday present in the future. Until then hope you all take my advice to heart since if the AI is so great now than make it better than Civ 6 issues by combining it with the hot mess in the steam workshop. I am not a coder as much as I used to be just wish those who are still who are still working on this step up and finally put the hot mess pieces together to compete with all of these 3 great mods in Civ IV.

That is my holiday wish for this year or next year hope to see it soon. Later

Where can I get the latest EUI mod? Because when I install VP it seem not to put the EUI in the right place and I cant find it!

Thank you

@Valvts , check my post 3059 five pages back. Run the autoinstaller and then move EUI from the wrong default folder to the correct one on your SD card. If you are not sure where the EUI is actually being (wrongly) installed run a search for "UI_bc1" on your C: drive. Then move it to the correct DLC folder.
