Community Patch - How To Install

@Ryds, hmmm, I think the standard path should be "Steam/... ", not "SteamLibrary/..."

Oh, and when you installed with EUI the first time, did the top panel change? Couls you see the unit list in left bottom of the screen? (I think it is turned on by default). If not, then the game was surely not picking up EUI correctlym

Hi, I've just uninstalled the game and deleted any remnant files in the Documents folder and in the Steamapps folder. I'll do a fresh install and document with pictures so I don't type anything incorrectly as I did with the "steamlibrary" path :)

1) I installed the game from Steam to this path:
nic85Wb.png

2) I downloaded the current VP auto installer from Mega:
6ISsc8Y.png

3) When I run the installer I see the Important Message: If you have manually moved the MODS folder out of your Documents/My Games/Civilization 5 folder, this installer will not work! I do not have this folder in the specified place (because, I think, I have not run the game for the first time) so I run the game without progressing the VP install and exit out. This adds the folder to the correct place:

4) I hit next and check the install path. It looks good so I proceed.

5) Informed that folder exists, assume that's required so I proceed

6) I choose VP including EUI

7) Setup will create shortcuts etc. Not sure about this but I click Next to put the shortcut in the Start Menu:

8) I'm given a summary of the procedure and select Install:

9) I run the game and select DX10/11 at the load screen.

10) I select the required mods and click Single Player

Oh good grief. I just clicked on:

And this is the production panel, right?!

If there's one skill that I pride myself on then it's my ability to follow instructions without error or deviation  and this has really p'd me off for the past 24 hours when I couldn't get it to "work". Hopefully the steps I've listed might help someone else though. Thanks a lot for your help @vyyt , could you confirm that this all looks good? I can choose a production and move to the next screen now!

@Ryds, yaay! :-D

Everything looks good to me. Sorry, I am not sure if I understand what you mean by trying to make it work for 24 hours. You mean it was working all the time? Either way, glad you made it work.

Haha, yep, it seems like I installed it correctly first time yesterday but just didn't realise this until 24 hours later. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!

Hello, I have the same issue as Draco963. When I load a game (England) I can move my scout, found London, select a tech but I do not have any options for Production, my screen looks the same as that posted above.

I'm new to Civ, just bought and downloaded it today on Steam. Here's the details:
  • Installed VP 6.2
  • Brand new install of Civ 5
  • No other mods, only VP
  • I'm selecting all the 8 or so mods from VP
  • Then Clicking single player
I've read through the past ten pages or so and only draco963 seems to have this problem, however, I do not have the mod that seemed to cause him trouble. I'm definitely not clicking Back, and am clicking Single Player once the mod loads.

Many thanks for help.

EDIT -
I've just reinstalled and selected the No EUI option and it appears that the game is fine in vanilla, so I'm not sure what I need to do to get the EUI going. Cheers.
Do you mean just the base game or the base game, expansions, and DLC's?

Yep, it appears to be working thanks. I downloaded the complete edition with all the DLC.

One quick question, (I haven't played Civ since 4 first came out). I have 288 gold in the bank and I notice that a lot of units aren't available to purchase, due to "You do not have enough :commerce: Gold to buy this."

E.g. Id like to buy a horseman unit but I get this message, there are others things available to buy though.

@Ryds, it literally means that you don't have enough money, horsemen are more expensive than e. g. archers.

Mind you, if you are using the EUI interface, the (red?) number next to the unit/building in the production menu means the money deficit, not the cost.

Also, some units need certain buildings for buying (not for regular construction).

I need help with installing other mods besides Vox Populi.
I got it working the same way as @Ryds did, however, the folder that I had was this:

0.png

It contained all these mods:

2.png

Yet all the ones that were installed were the same as Ryds'.

1.png

I'm new to modding, so allow me a few noob questions:

1. What have I done wrong? Or does the installer only installs Mods 1,2,3,4,5, 6a,7a and 7b?
2. If it can also install the other mods contained in the same folder, what must I do? I tried moving the other mods to the MODS folder manually, yet Civ 5 did not launch after selecting DirectX, and I only got it working again after I deleted the Civ 5 folder in My Games.

I really wanted this to work so I could move to Map Creation. I've been meaning to create a specific map and scenario while having VP for god knows how long. Yet, the mod installation part has been eluding me.

@JeffersonBelmont, nobody has replied yet, so I suppose everyone is as confused as I am :-) What exactly are you trying to achieve? I can see the multiplayer modpack and some kind of an emulator in your screenshots.

If you just want to play Vox Populi (as a standard mod, not a multiplayer modpack), just download the autoinstaller exe linked in the beginning of this thread. Run the autoinstaller, choose a preferred variant (I suppose you want the full Vox Populi with EUI) and play the modded game as usual via mods screen.

(if you have not played mods before, make sure to go to the MODS screen in the main menu, activate all 1-7b components of Vox Populi = the ones in your 3rd screenshot and then click Next, NOT back, you must not run the game from the main menu, always from the mods screen).

The second screenshot contains a bunch of non Vox Populi mods. Looks like they were bundled in a multiplayer modpack.

@vyyt, thanks for the reply.
Don't mind the emulators folder. It was used to temporally store the mods and VP for the installation.
I believed the autoinstaller exe would install not only VP 1-7b but any mod compatible with it as long as I had all in the same folder.
After using the autoinstaller and confirming that only the 1-7b components were successfully installed I wondered what had went wrong.
It turns out that those mods could only be installed as a modpack, so merely moving them into the mods folder didn't work, so I had to download them separately in order for them to work.
I was able to get them working with VP, except (ui) City-States Leaders for VP (v 10) which was blocked by other mods.
After I started playing, when checking city view, I got some white squares with minor red squares inside them displayed on the screen. But I assume this is mostly due to my computer graphics card limitations while playing civ 5 running these many mods, rather than a mod installation problem.
The game also crashed a lot, so I should upgrade the graphics card soon in order to play it without any problems.
Playing using only VP (1-7b) worked just fine, though.

@JeffersonBelmont, glad you made it work. Yes, the extra civs and the other mods in your screenshot are not part of VP, some of them are unofficial add-ons or tweaks of civs made compatible with VP. I would suggest playing the vanilla VP (= components 1-7) for the first couple of games to understand how the game works (ok, the QuickTurns is a must and some of the UI tweaks should be ok too), and only then start adding extra civs and mods, as some of them can break the game balance even if they are technically compatible.

Also, as you have noticed, Civ5 is a 32-bit app and you may run into problems if you add too many memory heavy mods (the biggest offenders are R.E.D. and Ethnic Units). If the graphic artifacts start appearing even when playing with the base VP (1-7), come back and ask here, it is aometimes possible to get rid of them with certain graphic settings.

I think I understand what made you think the other mods would be installed with VP. I think you have downloaded a multiplayer modpack for VP someone had made, not the exe autoinstaller in the very beginning, did you not? The MP modpack is a set of mods bundled together as a "fake" DLC. You have to place it in your DLCs folder, the game loads the modpack automatically, you don't go through the MODS screen. Nice people share their modpacks here and they often bundle their favorite mods with VP. I think you have downloaded them ne of these, but did not put it in the correct location. The modpack makes sense even for the single player, because it saves game launching time and clicks in the mods screen.

If you want to experiment with mods for n the future, we are keeping a list of compatible/incompatible mods here:

love this mod but i consistently crash during late games around turn 250 making it pretty much unusable... any fix for this?

the version of EUI packaged along with the installer is also outdated which might be part of the problem. EUI has been known to cause ctd's like this as well. any plans to include the newest version? manually installing the latest version over the packaged version doesn't work and corrupts the game causing all sorts of issues.

I don't think it's because of the EUI. I personally haven't had any crashes for 1-2 years on huge crowded maps on epic. Some people do get these crashes unfortunately. I think it's hardware related (does not necessarily mean weak hw).

I suppose you are not using any other extra mods?

no others mods, just the full Vox Populi package. i managed to get one crashless game in when i first installed the mod, but after that it crashes pretty consistently around the same time in mid-late game. i pretty much exclusively play on huge maps with max amount of AI players.

i've read about people being able to narrow down crashes like these to an AI player making an illegal move of some sort and using the in-game editor mod to delete that player... however i tried a few times and really wasn't able to pinpoint which AI could have been responsible for the crash.

Do the crashes happen at the same exact moment? (if you reload the autosave from the previous turn and then do the same actions).

The game creates a crash minidump in the main game directory (sorry on my cell now, not sure about the exact filename, goolge it up). You can file a report on GitHub and upload the minidump. The VP devs can take a look at it and try finding out what caused the crash. The GitHub repository is linked from one of the stickied threads.

If you want to salvage the game, tou can inatall the IGE mod and delete the unit/city/civ causing the crash. Pinpointing the 1 unit making the illegal move can be quite tedious, I suggest first killing all the units of the AI causing the crash and then either continue and let them rebuild their armies or you can create some new units for them with IGE again.

Yeah, I have seen other people reporting crashes after signing peace and thus automatically removing units to friendly territory in the newest version. I haven't played with the very latest version myself, so maybe I would also have the same problem.

they seem to happen at the same time. i've tried reloading earlier autosaves and manual saves from the same game that are fairly far back, like up to 20-30 turns or so with the crash still happening at the same time. its been a while since i played and i actually dont have the game installed right now (nor any of my saves) but im thinking about installing and giving it another go.

its interesting you mentioned signing a peace treaty being a pontential cause of crashing. i really cant recall if that was going on in any of my games when a crash happened but im going to pay attention to that in the future. if/when it happens again i'll try to upload the crashdump to GitHub.

Seems like i installed mod properly except... i dont have espionage menu. Any help?
Clearing cash does not help.
No-eui version is completly broken, cant choose units (only via unit awaits commands), also some interface buttons dont work (diplomacy + smth else)

[73379.734] Runtime Error: [string "C:\Users\titid\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's..."]:124: attempt to index a nil value

In lua.log file the problem mod's location is truncated and I don't understand how to make it not be truncated. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.
