James Horner, a composer who was responsible for so much of the music we've been familiar with for so many years, was killed in a plane crash on Monday, June 22. I first knew of this from several articles posted on a Star Trek forum, as Horner composed the scores for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

But it would greatly surprise me if there are any people on this forum who have never heard his music even once. He worked on films in many genres, and some of his best-known accomplishments include the music for Titanic, Braveheart, and Apollo 13.

James Horner, ‘Titanic’ Composer, Dies in Plane Crash.

I'm familiar with a lot of the films he made music to.

But darn it if I can recall the music.

I guess it was good filmscores in the sense, that the music didn't stand in the way of the rest.

Wow, he owned a Tucano. Talk about expensive and dangerous hobbies.

Some of the conversation about this has made people much more aware of what a narrow escape Harrison Ford had in his own plane accident. Ford was lucky enough to survive.

Horner wasn't, and the world will be the poorer for it. He wrote amazing music.

Great composer. These small planes seem like the number one cause of celebrity deaths.
