Computer Crashes 10 seconds into game every time

Hey look, another guy with a crashing problem!

Every time I start up a game (even the tutorial) it runs perfectly smooth even with the graphics on high, but within about ten seconds the game crashes as well as my computer. I'm not sure what the problem could be. I seem to surpass all of the recommended system requirements, with the exception of the Processor, I have an Athlon 64 3000+ processor ~1.0ghz...that's the only thing I can see that could be the problem. Other than that, I'm running a GeForce 6600GE card, so that's fine, and I have over 1GB of ram, more than enough hard drive space...i just can't see what the problem is.

I know there are other people out there with similar problems, anyone have an attempt at a solution?

I believe sd4hide is a means around the copy protection. I'm not certain it'd help you.

Have you tried turning down the graphics and seeing if that changes anything?

And your processor is probably running at 1.8 GHz; its FSB may be 1 GHz though.

No no, it has nothing to do with CD protection. The game starts up, and I'm staring at the first warrior and settler. I can actually play for like the first 10 seconds, but then my computer just crashes completely.
