Computer keeps crashing

I recently bought a new graphics card (8800GTS OC) and processor (AMD Athlon 4600+ dual core). Ever since then I've been having problems with my computer.

Occasionally the screen will go pink, and I have to reboot. I have a standby button on my keyboard and it doesn't respond to it, so I assume it's non-responsive.

Recently I've been getting the blue screen of death, which flashes up quickly, and then the computer reboots.

I just checked the temperatures: 45C for CPU and 31C for motherboard.

Does anyone know what might be causing this, or is it a case of swapping my CPUs around to see if it makes a difference?

What was your old graphics card, and how well did you clean out its drivers before installing the new one?

Make sure you have all upgraded drivers. For the motherboard, the video card, and the Mobo's vga driver set. Also make sure you have the latest updates for Windows. The last guy I talked to that couldn't get video drivers working was using WinXP service pack 1. When he updated that the drivers installed fine.

My old graphics card was a GeForce 6600 128MB. I followed the instructions for removal of the old drivers from the new graphics card, which I cannot find at the moment but I got the graphics card from BFG. I did poke my nose around the internet before I did it, which suggested downloading a program and then launching it in safe mode after uninstalling the drivers. However, after I uninstalled the drivers the screen (as I expected) was just black, so I just turned it off and went back to the original instructions. I'm also sure that pretty much the first thing I did was download the latest driver, but I'm downloading it now just in case.

I'm getting some weird errors popping up that never used to. Something like 'Generic host process' asking me to send/don't send. Last night I got one saying XP Service Pack 2 had encountered an error and had to close.

Power Supply. These new parts use more power than your old ones, and it might not be able to keep up. That can cause all sorts of problems.

It's 520W and pretty new too - I think it's roughly a year old.

BFG's site suggested 425W for the graphics card, so I was under the assumption that it would be fine with 520W...

That's a better PSU calculator...

However, PSU calculators aren't great in general.

StarWorms: What's the exact model of your PSU? The +12V rating is more important than the W rating, and even the rail readings aren't useful or accurate for cheap power supplies.

Also, if your case is packed with hard-drives, fans, and other add-ons, 520 might not cut it. It should in theory, though.

Did you contact the mother board maker to find out about support / BIOS update? Sometimes there's a stupid little issue there.

Nope, but I've looked on their site and mine isn't listed. Although there is one which is similarly named.

Mine is Asus A8NE-FM, but they have stuff for a A8N-E on the site. I don't want to start changing that sort of stuff until I'm sure nothing will go wrong...
